New York Plays Host To "I Am The Underground" Show February 12th
New York City is about to play host to the first ever "I Am The Underground" concert on February 12th. The concert is an effort to organize independent and unsigned artists who are making noise outside of Hip-Hop’s mainstream and to expose them to the rest of the media and music industry. The artists tapped to participate include Skyzoo, Sha Stimuli, Nina B, Torae, City Scholar, Sic Osyrus, Lexx9eleven, 2ew Gunn Ciz, Farrah Burns, No Good People, The League, Fev Eligante', Lydia Caesar, Remo Da Rapstar, Harlem, A-Pinks and Omar Wilson. The show’s organizers Franchyze Bless (A&R/ Inasirkl Music Group), DWI (Next Up Radio/ Producer/ Engineer) and DJ Bedtyme357 (Remy Ma's DJ aka Mr. I Am The Underground) are not hyping this as event as a battle, showcase or anything judged. It’s simply meant to be exposure for these artists. If you ask me, it sure sounds like a showcase, but definitely worth checking out. The event is being hosted by Hot 97 and Shade45 radio personality Dee Vazquez. So if you’re in NYC on the 12th, stop by Don Hill’s to check it out. DUB MD |

X-Clan have are currently preparing another monumental hip-hop release of knowledge and wisdom for late 2008 release through Suburban Noize Records. "We have been working on a new album, along with a new DVD release that starts to explain some of the history of X-Clan," says group founding father Brother J, offering a glimpse into what the hip-hop legends have cooking for 2008. "This is one of the first DVD's that will bring some of the history down as we start to gather some of the original members to tell their story. We are getting some things in line that are of the master caliber we want to present. Give peace and blessings to everyone. Respect." X-Clan, one of the genres most powerful and influential hip-hop crews ever, returned in 2007 after nearly a decade-long hiatus with their Suburban Noize debut, "Return From Mecca". SOURCE Magazine’s review of the album stated "Brother J shines as he nourishes with vanglourious music," while the Los Angeles Times proclaimed, "This a rare rap 'Return' well worth the wait." The critically acclaimed album saw the group dropping their unique brand of ancestral wisdom and culture to a whole new generation of hip-hop fans on sold out tours with Public Enemy, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Jurassic 5. X-Clan have also announced a headlining performance in San Francisco, CA on Feb 15th, 2008 with Humboldt County’s finest hip-hop duo Potluck. "We are definitely looking forward to one of the first headlining dates of the Millennium Cipher version of X-Clan. We've been holding it down for a couple of years now, supporting some powerful movements and we're looking forward to breaking out in the Bay area," says Brother J. "The Bay area was responsible for helping to break the original 'To the East, Blackwards' and 'Xodus' records back in the day, so we are glad to return on this level. We want to give a big ups to all the support acts (Lifesavas and Potluck) and we look forward to all the Bay area X-Clan heads coming out and having a good time." Raptalk's Styles Interviews Yukmouth For AllHipHop.com [New Interview Now Up]
Longtime rap fans will remember Yukmouth from his days as one half of the Platinum-selling group The Luniz and their smash hit single “I Got 5 On It.” Although the group has long-gone their separate ways, Yukmouth has maintained a solo career as an artist on Rap-A-Lot Records with three albums released including the Gold-selling Thugged Out: The Abulation.
Never one to hold back his tongue, Yukmouth has spent a good portion of the past decade feuding with the likes of Too $hort, Master P, Daz Dillinger, The Game, and the whole G-Unit camp. Now with a new album, The Million Dollar Mouthpiece, scheduled to drop February 12 on Rap-A-Lot Records, Yukmouth took the time to explain his new peaceful frame of mind and his different outlook on the rap world. Be warned, just because Yukmouth has set most his beefs aside, that doesn’t mean that he’s lost any of his viciousness as he shows in discussing his former Luniz partner Numskull. Pay attention as he shares his piece of mind. CLICK HERE TO READ YUKMOUTH'S NEW INTERVIEW ON ALLHIPHOP.COM

Raptalk Interview With Sicko Soldado
Latina Beatz hooked up with underground Emcee Sicko Soldado for an insightful interview. Your orginially from Sunland Park, New Mexico. How did you make your way to Los Angeles? I am originally from Sunland Park. I moved to Denver back in 98 for a while that’s when I first got serious about making music. I made my way to L.A. when I met Kemo at a Delinquent Habits show. How is the hip hop scene from there contrast to Los Angeles? It’s different in the way that the scene is still new and needs to grow a lot more. Not a lot places show love for the artist, but people appreciate the music just as much as people from L.A. You are currently under Kemo's (Formerly of Deliquent Habits) Record Label "Dead Silence." How did you link up with him? I met Kemo back in 02 at a Delinquent Habit show in Costa Mesa. He felt that we were good people so he gave us his contact. After we met we arranged a show in Juarez,MX. And started working together since then. You recently just dropped your self titled album "Sicko Soldado", I see Kemo's on it and your label mate Jehuniko, who else is featured on it? There are a few more emcee features such as Kemo's brother Mostro from the Dead Silence camp, The hated 13 (mads) from the Taylor Made Family, The homey Gremlin from the Life support Camp, and of course the homey Krazy Race from that realizm records. Most of the production was done by Kemo but I did also have some beats from my good homey Topik for Symbolix, I got another beat from the homey Monomaniac for life support, and a couple from the homeys The hated 13 (mads) for Taylor made family. They are all sick ass sick ass producers. How would you describe this album, what kind of vibe does it give off? This album is different than a lot of new shit that’s out there right now. I just keep it real. I didn’t make this album for the main stream as soon as you look at the cover you know its going to be some sick shit. Strictly for the underground. It gives off a good vibe. I touch a lot on the roots of the revolution it makes you feel like your back in the days of the movement. Growing up who has influenced you musically? I was influenced by emcees like Kemo, Big Duke, groups like control machete, psycho realm, Funkdoobiest, the Beatnuts, SPM, all the O.G. shit that started it all off for me. How do you set yourself apart from other emcees out there? I bring my own style to the table I write on some other shit. I am also bilingual which helps me flip up the flow. Being Mexican American, What do you think of the stereo-types of Hispanics in music, especially Hip Hop? I feel it’s a lot harder for our peps to get up in the ranks, and be given the chance to prove ourselves. A lot of the times they just affiliate us as a bad people because of how we look. They should base it on how good we do and how sick we rock shows. You have a unique voice, When I first heard it I was reminded of Fermin IV from Mexican Rap Group Control Machete and a slight hint of Duke from Psycho Realm, Do you get told that often? No not really. No one can be as sick as duke and Fermin lV is dope, but I bring my own style. You have been featured on a huge advertisment campaign for 1 of my favorite clothing lines "Joint Clothing" with that kind of exposure do you have plans to persue acting or even more adds for other companies? I did that for joint but I don’t really plan on working with other companies as for now. As for acting not really. I do plan on writing a movie though. Who would you like to collaborate with on your next project? I would want to collaborate with the homeys from Kinto Sol, Omar Cruz, Sinful and work on some Spanish shit. You have a well known buzz in the SouthWest Region, Do you feel it's hard to get a buzz here in L.A.? Yeah its more of a challenge out here cause theirs a lot of competition, so whatever I do is got to be sick to get the buzz going. What other collabs/albums can we find you on? I been featured on a few of Dj Paybacks mixes he’s got a new one coming out real soon called Hecho en Aztlan 3. I was featured on both of Kemo the Blaxican albums simple plan and his new album not so rich and famous. I was also featured on Jehunikos album La pura Vida, Ikuestions Dangerous Spanglish, Krazy Race Movement Strength in numbers, and Corner Block new Album City Blues. Do you have any other projects in the works? Right now I’m working with Kemo on the Dead Silence Compilation, I also just did work on Mic Mcs up coming album. Working on a track for the homey Gremlins album. Where can people go to cop your album? People can cop the C.D at a few places like the Psycho shop in Santa Fe Springs, Kokopelli smoke shop in Pico Rivera, Norwalk Records, High Caliber Record store in El Paso Tx. , more stores to be added. People could also get the album on line at jointclothing.com. Check out for shows at: www.myspace.com/sickodeadsilence www.myspace.com/jointclothing.com www.myspace.com/kemotheblaxian |

Knawledg Of MathMadix Preps “Based On A True Story”
Written By Lunatic 63 We return with yet ANOTHER update on the MathMadix camp. This time, it comes from the #1 protégé of Knoc-turn’al, Knawledg. The Wasco Kern County native is currently prepping his debut disc entitled "Based On A True Story." When asked about what the fans can expect from the album, Knawledg had this to say: "Expect a classic. Most rappers work on their album for a few months, this has been years in the making for me. Over a 1,000 songs have been recorded for it and I been putting to the side the super, super dope ones just for this record. The beauty of it is, it really has been put together like a movie. The skits on it are gonna be re-enactments of real events that have taken place over the course of my life." The album will feature production from Deztined, J-Beam and Lifted of The Formula. Guest appearances will come from Knoc-turn’al and the rest of the MathMadix click, along with a surprise guest we can not mention at this time! Knawledg had this to say about the lineup: "I want to prove that I can hold my own weight with this album. I recorded many tracks with my dude Knoc-turn’al, but I only picked two of those joints for the record. The reason I got these three producers doing the album is that I really trust these guys. I been working with them for a long time, and I wanna see them blow up along side me. I mean, anyone can get a beat from a big time producer and have the song focus around that. Artists do that along with throwing a grip of guest rappers on their songs to take away from how wack they are on the mic. I want my shit to speak for itself." As you can see Knawledg is getting ready to drop an epic album! He also had this to say: "Expect about 12-14 tracks on the record. You won’t be hearing any fillers on it. I’m having such a tough time picking a single, that’s how dope this is. I’m still stuck between roughly four tracks". Two of the four songs Knawledg speaks of are the MathMadix featured "California" and "Bounce" which you can hear on the official MathMadix page: www.myspace.com/mathmadix The other tracks, are the two we are bringing to the attention of the fans tonight. The first goes by the name of "Fresh Kix" and is the street single for the record. It is produced by Deztined with co-production done by Knawledg himself! You can hear the track at the official myspace page of Knawledg, and can buy the mp3 off the page for the low price of 99cents!! www.myspace.com/knawledg The 2nd track is "That’s My Shit" and it also features Deztined behind the boards. It can also be bought in mp3 format at www.myspace.com/knawledg for just 99cents. Look out for plenty more exclusives in the near future from Knawledg and the rest of the MathMadix click… |

Exclusive Interview With Big Tyme of MathMadix
Just one day after we premiered the new Big Tyme track "Hard N Da Paint", Lunatic 63 hooked up with Big Tyme for an exclusive interview. Big Tyme goes into detail on his debut album, his upcoming Free EP, Knoc-turn’al and more, so read and enjoy. Be on the lookout for more exclusive audio and interviews with the entire MathMadix click… CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD "HARD N DA PAINT" Interview by Lunatic 63 How did you establish a relationship with Knoc-turn’al? Ohh man, that’s a long one (laughs). I got started in this rap game by doing freestyle battles and one night I was out in Dallas doing one (battle) at a club. A dude by the name of Chuck was out there, he a local talent out in Forth worth Texas. He is also a friend of Knoc, and he (Chuck) introduced me to him (Knoc). Knoc asked me to spit a freestyle right on the spot man. Knoc was feeling it and said he wants to put me on. Knoc took me out to the west coast just a few days later and I met the rest of the MathMadix click and we got to working. How does it feel to be the only southern member in the MathMadix? Man it was rough at first (laughs). It was difficult for those guys (MathMadix) to get used to my swagger and rap style. It was definitely a little rough at first, but now everyone is on the same page. You know, it’s a whole different story on the west. I was reading the feedback on the "Hard N Da Paint" joint we dropped on Raptalk, and saw people mentioning my slow flow. You know, that’s what’s hot out here in Texas. But I can go fast tempo as well, we gonna show them that with some tracks (laughs). I got much love for the West though. What can we expect from your debut album? You can expect heat from it (laughs). I got some real good features on my album, both south and west coast. I got Nate Dogg doing something for it. Dibiase is gonna be on the record as well. In terms of the south, Tum-Tum from Dallas, we did a joint together for the album. I’m also looking to do some work with the Swisha House family. I went down to where they stay, and got to meet all those dudes. It was nothing but love, so we gonna try and get some work done together as well. On the production tip, you will see Vision, Deztined, J-Beam and so on. The album is heat - got plenty of it man. I use my slow flow throughout it, but I also show my ability to jump on some fast tempo tracks. Is their a release date planned at this time for it? I’m not to sure right now. Sometime right after we (MathMadix) drop the group album. Myself and Knawledg should be dropping at around the same time. So no date is set in stone as of right now. We are trying to go major with it, so you never know. That is why I’m dropping this Ep "Stunting and Badd Habbitz." You can look for that around the end of February - beginning of March. I am going to press up 20,000 copies or more if we need it. We gonna try and create a little fan base with it. Originally, it was just gonna be for my folk out here in Texas, but if any fans want a copy they can hit me up on Myspace with their address information, and I’ll ship them a copy. Can we get some details on the EP? Absolutely. We got four tracks on it. The first track is the one we premiered on Raptalk, "Hard N Da Paint." That’s my man Knoc-turn’al on the hook by the way. J-Beam produced it and it’s a Southern banger. The second track is "Rep The South". It’s produced by Vision, and the title says it all - I’m reppin’ where I’m from. The next track is called "Grain Grippin" and it features Knoc-turn’al, Knawledg and Ripacut. That’s also my boy Craig Jay on the hook, he is from Texas as well. It’s also produced by Vision. The fourth and final song is "I’m from Fort Worth" and it features Kylo The Twin. Vision is behind the boards once again on this track. In terms of the major label situation, any deals on the table? Equity Records is the label that we are on. We’re looking for distribution for Equity right now, and we’ve met with plenty of major labels about it. Just about every major as a matter of fact (laughs). They all came with deals, but it wasn’t what we are looking for. Those deals are on the table though. We are trying to get them to up their offers a bit. When we met the majority of these labels, we were not finished with any of our albums. But now, all the albums are lock and key. Are their any other artists you are working with? Yea, I wanna talk a bit about the producer Vision. He produced three tracks on my EP and he is fantastic. He is currently working on his debut album called "The Epidemic." He’s a mix of Gospel and Hip-Hop. He also has some major labels ringing up his phone. I believe he’s talking with the folks over at Sony and BME right now. Which artists have inspired you throughout your career? Scarface first off. He is the man down here in the South. 2Pac is another one of course. Always got to say him - he’s my idol - as well as some other southern legends like Lil Flip and Paul Wall. Lil Wayne is another one, I’m a big supporter of Wayne. Knoc-turn’al ofcourse, I’ve always been a big fan of his so it’s like a dream come true to be working with him (Knoc-turn’al). If you could have one dream record on your album, how would it sound like? It would feature Lil Wayne & T-Pain with Scott Storch on the beat. That’s a guaranteed #1 hit right there (laughs). Do you have any last words for the fans? Yeah, I want to speak a little on Knoc-turn’al. I hear a lot of whispers here and there about "Knoc fell off" and I just want to say Knoc has never fallen off. People don’t understand that Knoc is not the type of dude who is all about the fame. He tells me he wants to get me out there doing it big and he just wants a ten second spot walking through in my video and just go on about his business (laughs). He has put a fantastic group together (MathMadix) and there is lots of good music coming out of it. Lots of talented people, its crazy man. The "California" track we made for the Knawledg solo album, that’s a classic track right there. I also wanna say Ft. Worth stand up! I’d like to shout out Knawledg and J-Beam for helping me make these hot tracks. Much love from the south to the west coast, It’s MathMadix til’ the casket drops!! |

RapTalk.net Exclusive Q&A Interview Session w/ SiLent Knight
Raptalk.net this week got the chance to hook up with Brooklyn native and Rawkus 50 artist SiLent Knight for a quick question and answer session. Silent Knight is on the verge of releasing his new project "Restoration: One Step Back, Two Steps Forward" which is due out at the end of the month. He sits down to speak on what he thinks of Hip Hop today, his new project and what producers and artists he's hooking up with, make sure you check out the new track called "The Gathering" produced by Oddisee at the end of the interview. Dub MD: SiLent Knight, What's good? SiLent Knight: Just maintaining man, tryna stay sane. Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? SiLent Knight: Well I was part of a group called Unstoppable Unity, I then started doing the solo thing and released my first mix cd "Fall Of Ignorance" in 05, I put out a cd called "Simplexity" with my boy Cy Marshall Law as well as a mix cd called "Bar Food" in 06, and my debut album "Hunger Strike" dropped in the beginning of 07. Plus a bunch of mixtape, compilation, and guest appearances. That's what you meant by that question right? If you wanna talk about experiences, I can't give you a short answer on that one. (laughs) Dub MD: Coming from Brooklyn, what do you think of the New York music scene right now? SiLent Knight: I actually like the New York scene for the most part. I mean there's definitely aspects I don't like, but I try to keep a positive outlook on things. There are dope cats in the mainstream, on the mixtape scene, and in the "underground", who are all doing their thing. In all genres. That goes for the New Jersey scene as well. Dub MD: What do you think of the commercialisation of Hip Hop right now, do you think its showing respect to its pioneers? SiLent Knight: This question can be taken a lot of ways and sometimes people jump on the hip-hop bandwagon and get things twisted. Like for instance; thinking anyone who gets some airplay or major recognition is a sell-out. Or for that matter thinking rappers weren't talking about money, jewellery, and sex back in the day. It was just as much about getting ass and getting cash as it was about speaking truth and teaching youth. But anyway to actually answer your question (laughs) I do think that the structure of the business and the redundant video and song spins(among other things) is not showing respect to our pioneers whatsoever. I love the fact that hip-hop is all over the place, and more and more people are embracing it. But with that, comes more and more people exploiting it. On a good note, there are a lot of young cats doing there thing right now, and I know for a fact that most of the pioneers are proud. There's always gonna be wack artists and talented artists but I hope either one keeps his/her integrity. Dub MD: Do you have a new project in the works? what's it called? and what can heads out there expect from it? SiLent Knight: I have a new project about to drop titled "Restoration: One step back, Two steps forward. It's essentially a remix cd. Some real dope producers remixed certain songs from Hunger Strike, Fall Of Ignorance, as well as rare and unreleased songs. Plus there's some brand new verses and hooks! I'm really happy with it, and I think it stands on its own as a record even though its primarily old lyrics. Dub MD: With this project, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round? SiLent Knight: I worked with a bunch of different producers for this joint. Of course my peoples KON and Analogic, who've been on pretty much every project thus far. Then I also started working with some crazy talented dudes like DJ Vadim, M-Phazes, and E Jones. Plus some producers I noticed during my "This Is It" remix contest, including Blastah Beats, FortyI, D-slaps, and much more! As far as artists the only features are a couple from past songs that were remixed, and also a singer named M. Josephine who kills it! (Look out for her) "I love the fact that hip-hop is all over the place, and more and more people are embracing it. But with that, comes more and more people exploiting it" Dub MD: How as an emcee do you think you've changed from your debut "Fall Of Ignorance" up until now? SiLent Knight: First of all, let me address this. "Fall Of Ignorance" was a mix CD. "Hunger Strike" is my debut album, this is not directed at Dub MD whatsoever but more so to those people out there who get the facts twisted and then try to talk shit, and act like they're informed, get your shit straight! Ok moving on (laughs) F.O.I. was released in 2005, and I had been working on it for a year or 2. So naturally there's some changes and progression on my part since then. I don't think its anything drastic but I like to think my delivery is more polished and I'm able to convey my thoughts a little better. Dub MD: What's your label situation like just now? SiLent Knight: I'm currently unsigned kinda. I'm signed to Rawkus for a digital deal, as a member of the Rawkus 50. They released "Hunger Strike v.2" on iTunes, Amazon.com, emusic, etc. Elementality Productions, which is my managers company, released "Hunger Strike". Restoration will be released digitally as well through a label. So that means I'm currently looking for outlets for my future projects! Holla Burton Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? SiLent Knight: My ability to relate to a very wide range of listeners. A white American grandmother to a kid hustling on the block and a lot in between. Besides that my voice, and my live show. Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, What would they be? SiLent Knight: There are no current words in the English language to describe me (laughs) nah I'm playing. Kool Herc Calls On Hip Hop Fans To Save Hip Hop's Birthplace
With the fate of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue hanging in the balance, Hip-Hop co-founder DJ Kool Herc is issuing a call for supporters of the genre to help save the culture’s official birthplace. Kool Herc’s clothing company Sedgwick & Cedar Corp will launch Save 1520, a charitable collection of tees, hats and jackets. One hundred percent of net proceeds from the sale of Save 1520 clothing will go toward helping the 1520 Sedgwick Tenant Association obtain governmental and philanthropic assistance to purchase the building, in addition to preserving the project and maintain affordable housing.
"This is Hip-Hop's original house and home to the people, " said the Hip-Hop legend, who plans to appeal to major artists to make philanthropic donations to assist the tenants in purchasing the building. "We need to save it."
For details on the Save 1520 collection, contact rayr@sc73.com or visit www.sc73.com. To make a contribution, visit www.save1520.org.
