New York Plays Host To "I Am The Underground" Show February 12th
|
New York City is about to play host to the first ever "I Am The Underground" concert on February 12th. The concert is an effort to organize independent and unsigned artists who are making noise outside of Hip-Hop’s mainstream and to expose them to the rest of the media and music industry. The artists tapped to participate include Skyzoo, Sha Stimuli, Nina B, Torae, City Scholar, Sic Osyrus, Lexx9eleven, 2ew Gunn Ciz, Farrah Burns, No Good People, The League, Fev Eligante', Lydia Caesar, Remo Da Rapstar, Harlem, A-Pinks and Omar Wilson. The show’s organizers Franchyze Bless (A&R/ Inasirkl Music Group), DWI (Next Up Radio/ Producer/ Engineer) and DJ Bedtyme357 (Remy Ma's DJ aka Mr. I Am The Underground) are not hyping this as event as a battle, showcase or anything judged. It’s simply meant to be exposure for these artists. If you ask me, it sure sounds like a showcase, but definitely worth checking out. The event is being hosted by Hot 97 and Shade45 radio personality Dee Vazquez. So if you’re in NYC on the 12th, stop by Don Hill’s to check it out. DUB MD |

X-Clan have are currently preparing another monumental hip-hop release of knowledge and wisdom for late 2008 release through Suburban Noize Records. "We have been working on a new album, along with a new DVD release that starts to explain some of the history of X-Clan," says group founding father Brother J, offering a glimpse into what the hip-hop legends have cooking for 2008. "This is one of the first DVD's that will bring some of the history down as we start to gather some of the original members to tell their story. We are getting some things in line that are of the master caliber we want to present. Give peace and blessings to everyone. Respect." X-Clan, one of the genres most powerful and influential hip-hop crews ever, returned in 2007 after nearly a decade-long hiatus with their Suburban Noize debut, "Return From Mecca". SOURCE Magazine’s review of the album stated "Brother J shines as he nourishes with vanglourious music," while the Los Angeles Times proclaimed, "This a rare rap 'Return' well worth the wait." The critically acclaimed album saw the group dropping their unique brand of ancestral wisdom and culture to a whole new generation of hip-hop fans on sold out tours with Public Enemy, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Jurassic 5. X-Clan have also announced a headlining performance in San Francisco, CA on Feb 15th, 2008 with Humboldt County’s finest hip-hop duo Potluck. "We are definitely looking forward to one of the first headlining dates of the Millennium Cipher version of X-Clan. We've been holding it down for a couple of years now, supporting some powerful movements and we're looking forward to breaking out in the Bay area," says Brother J. "The Bay area was responsible for helping to break the original 'To the East, Blackwards' and 'Xodus' records back in the day, so we are glad to return on this level. We want to give a big ups to all the support acts (Lifesavas and Potluck) and we look forward to all the Bay area X-Clan heads coming out and having a good time." Raptalk's Styles Interviews Yukmouth For AllHipHop.com [New Interview Now Up]
|
Longtime rap fans will remember Yukmouth from his days as one half of the Platinum-selling group The Luniz and their smash hit single “I Got 5 On It.” Although the group has long-gone their separate ways, Yukmouth has maintained a solo career as an artist on Rap-A-Lot Records with three albums released including the Gold-selling Thugged Out: The Abulation.
Never one to hold back his tongue, Yukmouth has spent a good portion of the past decade feuding with the likes of Too $hort, Master P, Daz Dillinger, The Game, and the whole G-Unit camp. Now with a new album, The Million Dollar Mouthpiece, scheduled to drop February 12 on Rap-A-Lot Records, Yukmouth took the time to explain his new peaceful frame of mind and his different outlook on the rap world. Be warned, just because Yukmouth has set most his beefs aside, that doesn’t mean that he’s lost any of his viciousness as he shows in discussing his former Luniz partner Numskull. Pay attention as he shares his piece of mind. CLICK HERE TO READ YUKMOUTH'S NEW INTERVIEW ON ALLHIPHOP.COM

Raptalk Interview With Sicko Soldado
|
Latina Beatz hooked up with underground Emcee Sicko Soldado for an insightful interview. Your orginially from Sunland Park, New Mexico. How did you make your way to Los Angeles? I am originally from Sunland Park. I moved to Denver back in 98 for a while that’s when I first got serious about making music. I made my way to L.A. when I met Kemo at a Delinquent Habits show. How is the hip hop scene from there contrast to Los Angeles? It’s different in the way that the scene is still new and needs to grow a lot more. Not a lot places show love for the artist, but people appreciate the music just as much as people from L.A. You are currently under Kemo's (Formerly of Deliquent Habits) Record Label "Dead Silence." How did you link up with him? I met Kemo back in 02 at a Delinquent Habit show in Costa Mesa. He felt that we were good people so he gave us his contact. After we met we arranged a show in Juarez,MX. And started working together since then. You recently just dropped your self titled album "Sicko Soldado", I see Kemo's on it and your label mate Jehuniko, who else is featured on it? There are a few more emcee features such as Kemo's brother Mostro from the Dead Silence camp, The hated 13 (mads) from the Taylor Made Family, The homey Gremlin from the Life support Camp, and of course the homey Krazy Race from that realizm records. Most of the production was done by Kemo but I did also have some beats from my good homey Topik for Symbolix, I got another beat from the homey Monomaniac for life support, and a couple from the homeys The hated 13 (mads) for Taylor made family. They are all sick ass sick ass producers. How would you describe this album, what kind of vibe does it give off? This album is different than a lot of new shit that’s out there right now. I just keep it real. I didn’t make this album for the main stream as soon as you look at the cover you know its going to be some sick shit. Strictly for the underground. It gives off a good vibe. I touch a lot on the roots of the revolution it makes you feel like your back in the days of the movement. Growing up who has influenced you musically? I was influenced by emcees like Kemo, Big Duke, groups like control machete, psycho realm, Funkdoobiest, the Beatnuts, SPM, all the O.G. shit that started it all off for me. How do you set yourself apart from other emcees out there? I bring my own style to the table I write on some other shit. I am also bilingual which helps me flip up the flow. Being Mexican American, What do you think of the stereo-types of Hispanics in music, especially Hip Hop? I feel it’s a lot harder for our peps to get up in the ranks, and be given the chance to prove ourselves. A lot of the times they just affiliate us as a bad people because of how we look. They should base it on how good we do and how sick we rock shows. You have a unique voice, When I first heard it I was reminded of Fermin IV from Mexican Rap Group Control Machete and a slight hint of Duke from Psycho Realm, Do you get told that often? No not really. No one can be as sick as duke and Fermin lV is dope, but I bring my own style. You have been featured on a huge advertisment campaign for 1 of my favorite clothing lines "Joint Clothing" with that kind of exposure do you have plans to persue acting or even more adds for other companies? I did that for joint but I don’t really plan on working with other companies as for now. As for acting not really. I do plan on writing a movie though. Who would you like to collaborate with on your next project? I would want to collaborate with the homeys from Kinto Sol, Omar Cruz, Sinful and work on some Spanish shit. You have a well known buzz in the SouthWest Region, Do you feel it's hard to get a buzz here in L.A.? Yeah its more of a challenge out here cause theirs a lot of competition, so whatever I do is got to be sick to get the buzz going. What other collabs/albums can we find you on? I been featured on a few of Dj Paybacks mixes he’s got a new one coming out real soon called Hecho en Aztlan 3. I was featured on both of Kemo the Blaxican albums simple plan and his new album not so rich and famous. I was also featured on Jehunikos album La pura Vida, Ikuestions Dangerous Spanglish, Krazy Race Movement Strength in numbers, and Corner Block new Album City Blues. Do you have any other projects in the works? Right now I’m working with Kemo on the Dead Silence Compilation, I also just did work on Mic Mcs up coming album. Working on a track for the homey Gremlins album. Where can people go to cop your album? People can cop the C.D at a few places like the Psycho shop in Santa Fe Springs, Kokopelli smoke shop in Pico Rivera, Norwalk Records, High Caliber Record store in El Paso Tx. , more stores to be added. People could also get the album on line at jointclothing.com. Check out for shows at: www.myspace.com/sickodeadsilence www.myspace.com/jointclothing.com www.myspace.com/kemotheblaxian |

Knawledg Of MathMadix Preps “Based On A True Story”
|
Written By Lunatic 63 We return with yet ANOTHER update on the MathMadix camp. This time, it comes from the #1 protégé of Knoc-turn’al, Knawledg. The Wasco Kern County native is currently prepping his debut disc entitled "Based On A True Story." When asked about what the fans can expect from the album, Knawledg had this to say: "Expect a classic. Most rappers work on their album for a few months, this has been years in the making for me. Over a 1,000 songs have been recorded for it and I been putting to the side the super, super dope ones just for this record. The beauty of it is, it really has been put together like a movie. The skits on it are gonna be re-enactments of real events that have taken place over the course of my life." The album will feature production from Deztined, J-Beam and Lifted of The Formula. Guest appearances will come from Knoc-turn’al and the rest of the MathMadix click, along with a surprise guest we can not mention at this time! Knawledg had this to say about the lineup: "I want to prove that I can hold my own weight with this album. I recorded many tracks with my dude Knoc-turn’al, but I only picked two of those joints for the record. The reason I got these three producers doing the album is that I really trust these guys. I been working with them for a long time, and I wanna see them blow up along side me. I mean, anyone can get a beat from a big time producer and have the song focus around that. Artists do that along with throwing a grip of guest rappers on their songs to take away from how wack they are on the mic. I want my shit to speak for itself." As you can see Knawledg is getting ready to drop an epic album! He also had this to say: "Expect about 12-14 tracks on the record. You won’t be hearing any fillers on it. I’m having such a tough time picking a single, that’s how dope this is. I’m still stuck between roughly four tracks". Two of the four songs Knawledg speaks of are the MathMadix featured "California" and "Bounce" which you can hear on the official MathMadix page: www.myspace.com/mathmadix The other tracks, are the two we are bringing to the attention of the fans tonight. The first goes by the name of "Fresh Kix" and is the street single for the record. It is produced by Deztined with co-production done by Knawledg himself! You can hear the track at the official myspace page of Knawledg, and can buy the mp3 off the page for the low price of 99cents!! www.myspace.com/knawledg The 2nd track is "That’s My Shit" and it also features Deztined behind the boards. It can also be bought in mp3 format at www.myspace.com/knawledg for just 99cents. Look out for plenty more exclusives in the near future from Knawledg and the rest of the MathMadix click… |

Exclusive Interview With Big Tyme of MathMadix
|
Just one day after we premiered the new Big Tyme track "Hard N Da Paint", Lunatic 63 hooked up with Big Tyme for an exclusive interview. Big Tyme goes into detail on his debut album, his upcoming Free EP, Knoc-turn’al and more, so read and enjoy. Be on the lookout for more exclusive audio and interviews with the entire MathMadix click… CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD "HARD N DA PAINT" Interview by Lunatic 63 How did you establish a relationship with Knoc-turn’al? Ohh man, that’s a long one (laughs). I got started in this rap game by doing freestyle battles and one night I was out in Dallas doing one (battle) at a club. A dude by the name of Chuck was out there, he a local talent out in Forth worth Texas. He is also a friend of Knoc, and he (Chuck) introduced me to him (Knoc). Knoc asked me to spit a freestyle right on the spot man. Knoc was feeling it and said he wants to put me on. Knoc took me out to the west coast just a few days later and I met the rest of the MathMadix click and we got to working. How does it feel to be the only southern member in the MathMadix? Man it was rough at first (laughs). It was difficult for those guys (MathMadix) to get used to my swagger and rap style. It was definitely a little rough at first, but now everyone is on the same page. You know, it’s a whole different story on the west. I was reading the feedback on the "Hard N Da Paint" joint we dropped on Raptalk, and saw people mentioning my slow flow. You know, that’s what’s hot out here in Texas. But I can go fast tempo as well, we gonna show them that with some tracks (laughs). I got much love for the West though. What can we expect from your debut album? You can expect heat from it (laughs). I got some real good features on my album, both south and west coast. I got Nate Dogg doing something for it. Dibiase is gonna be on the record as well. In terms of the south, Tum-Tum from Dallas, we did a joint together for the album. I’m also looking to do some work with the Swisha House family. I went down to where they stay, and got to meet all those dudes. It was nothing but love, so we gonna try and get some work done together as well. On the production tip, you will see Vision, Deztined, J-Beam and so on. The album is heat - got plenty of it man. I use my slow flow throughout it, but I also show my ability to jump on some fast tempo tracks. Is their a release date planned at this time for it? I’m not to sure right now. Sometime right after we (MathMadix) drop the group album. Myself and Knawledg should be dropping at around the same time. So no date is set in stone as of right now. We are trying to go major with it, so you never know. That is why I’m dropping this Ep "Stunting and Badd Habbitz." You can look for that around the end of February - beginning of March. I am going to press up 20,000 copies or more if we need it. We gonna try and create a little fan base with it. Originally, it was just gonna be for my folk out here in Texas, but if any fans want a copy they can hit me up on Myspace with their address information, and I’ll ship them a copy. Can we get some details on the EP? Absolutely. We got four tracks on it. The first track is the one we premiered on Raptalk, "Hard N Da Paint." That’s my man Knoc-turn’al on the hook by the way. J-Beam produced it and it’s a Southern banger. The second track is "Rep The South". It’s produced by Vision, and the title says it all - I’m reppin’ where I’m from. The next track is called "Grain Grippin" and it features Knoc-turn’al, Knawledg and Ripacut. That’s also my boy Craig Jay on the hook, he is from Texas as well. It’s also produced by Vision. The fourth and final song is "I’m from Fort Worth" and it features Kylo The Twin. Vision is behind the boards once again on this track. In terms of the major label situation, any deals on the table? Equity Records is the label that we are on. We’re looking for distribution for Equity right now, and we’ve met with plenty of major labels about it. Just about every major as a matter of fact (laughs). They all came with deals, but it wasn’t what we are looking for. Those deals are on the table though. We are trying to get them to up their offers a bit. When we met the majority of these labels, we were not finished with any of our albums. But now, all the albums are lock and key. Are their any other artists you are working with? Yea, I wanna talk a bit about the producer Vision. He produced three tracks on my EP and he is fantastic. He is currently working on his debut album called "The Epidemic." He’s a mix of Gospel and Hip-Hop. He also has some major labels ringing up his phone. I believe he’s talking with the folks over at Sony and BME right now. Which artists have inspired you throughout your career? Scarface first off. He is the man down here in the South. 2Pac is another one of course. Always got to say him - he’s my idol - as well as some other southern legends like Lil Flip and Paul Wall. Lil Wayne is another one, I’m a big supporter of Wayne. Knoc-turn’al ofcourse, I’ve always been a big fan of his so it’s like a dream come true to be working with him (Knoc-turn’al). If you could have one dream record on your album, how would it sound like? It would feature Lil Wayne & T-Pain with Scott Storch on the beat. That’s a guaranteed #1 hit right there (laughs). Do you have any last words for the fans? Yeah, I want to speak a little on Knoc-turn’al. I hear a lot of whispers here and there about "Knoc fell off" and I just want to say Knoc has never fallen off. People don’t understand that Knoc is not the type of dude who is all about the fame. He tells me he wants to get me out there doing it big and he just wants a ten second spot walking through in my video and just go on about his business (laughs). He has put a fantastic group together (MathMadix) and there is lots of good music coming out of it. Lots of talented people, its crazy man. The "California" track we made for the Knawledg solo album, that’s a classic track right there. I also wanna say Ft. Worth stand up! I’d like to shout out Knawledg and J-Beam for helping me make these hot tracks. Much love from the south to the west coast, It’s MathMadix til’ the casket drops!! |

RapTalk.net Exclusive Q&A Interview Session w/ SiLent Knight
|
Raptalk.net this week got the chance to hook up with Brooklyn native and Rawkus 50 artist SiLent Knight for a quick question and answer session. Silent Knight is on the verge of releasing his new project "Restoration: One Step Back, Two Steps Forward" which is due out at the end of the month. He sits down to speak on what he thinks of Hip Hop today, his new project and what producers and artists he's hooking up with, make sure you check out the new track called "The Gathering" produced by Oddisee at the end of the interview. Dub MD: SiLent Knight, What's good? SiLent Knight: Just maintaining man, tryna stay sane. Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? SiLent Knight: Well I was part of a group called Unstoppable Unity, I then started doing the solo thing and released my first mix cd "Fall Of Ignorance" in 05, I put out a cd called "Simplexity" with my boy Cy Marshall Law as well as a mix cd called "Bar Food" in 06, and my debut album "Hunger Strike" dropped in the beginning of 07. Plus a bunch of mixtape, compilation, and guest appearances. That's what you meant by that question right? If you wanna talk about experiences, I can't give you a short answer on that one. (laughs) Dub MD: Coming from Brooklyn, what do you think of the New York music scene right now? SiLent Knight: I actually like the New York scene for the most part. I mean there's definitely aspects I don't like, but I try to keep a positive outlook on things. There are dope cats in the mainstream, on the mixtape scene, and in the "underground", who are all doing their thing. In all genres. That goes for the New Jersey scene as well. Dub MD: What do you think of the commercialisation of Hip Hop right now, do you think its showing respect to its pioneers? SiLent Knight: This question can be taken a lot of ways and sometimes people jump on the hip-hop bandwagon and get things twisted. Like for instance; thinking anyone who gets some airplay or major recognition is a sell-out. Or for that matter thinking rappers weren't talking about money, jewellery, and sex back in the day. It was just as much about getting ass and getting cash as it was about speaking truth and teaching youth. But anyway to actually answer your question (laughs) I do think that the structure of the business and the redundant video and song spins(among other things) is not showing respect to our pioneers whatsoever. I love the fact that hip-hop is all over the place, and more and more people are embracing it. But with that, comes more and more people exploiting it. On a good note, there are a lot of young cats doing there thing right now, and I know for a fact that most of the pioneers are proud. There's always gonna be wack artists and talented artists but I hope either one keeps his/her integrity. Dub MD: Do you have a new project in the works? what's it called? and what can heads out there expect from it? SiLent Knight: I have a new project about to drop titled "Restoration: One step back, Two steps forward. It's essentially a remix cd. Some real dope producers remixed certain songs from Hunger Strike, Fall Of Ignorance, as well as rare and unreleased songs. Plus there's some brand new verses and hooks! I'm really happy with it, and I think it stands on its own as a record even though its primarily old lyrics. Dub MD: With this project, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round? SiLent Knight: I worked with a bunch of different producers for this joint. Of course my peoples KON and Analogic, who've been on pretty much every project thus far. Then I also started working with some crazy talented dudes like DJ Vadim, M-Phazes, and E Jones. Plus some producers I noticed during my "This Is It" remix contest, including Blastah Beats, FortyI, D-slaps, and much more! As far as artists the only features are a couple from past songs that were remixed, and also a singer named M. Josephine who kills it! (Look out for her) "I love the fact that hip-hop is all over the place, and more and more people are embracing it. But with that, comes more and more people exploiting it" Dub MD: How as an emcee do you think you've changed from your debut "Fall Of Ignorance" up until now? SiLent Knight: First of all, let me address this. "Fall Of Ignorance" was a mix CD. "Hunger Strike" is my debut album, this is not directed at Dub MD whatsoever but more so to those people out there who get the facts twisted and then try to talk shit, and act like they're informed, get your shit straight! Ok moving on (laughs) F.O.I. was released in 2005, and I had been working on it for a year or 2. So naturally there's some changes and progression on my part since then. I don't think its anything drastic but I like to think my delivery is more polished and I'm able to convey my thoughts a little better. Dub MD: What's your label situation like just now? SiLent Knight: I'm currently unsigned kinda. I'm signed to Rawkus for a digital deal, as a member of the Rawkus 50. They released "Hunger Strike v.2" on iTunes, Amazon.com, emusic, etc. Elementality Productions, which is my managers company, released "Hunger Strike". Restoration will be released digitally as well through a label. So that means I'm currently looking for outlets for my future projects! Holla Burton Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? SiLent Knight: My ability to relate to a very wide range of listeners. A white American grandmother to a kid hustling on the block and a lot in between. Besides that my voice, and my live show. Kool Herc Calls On Hip Hop Fans To Save Hip Hop's Birthplace
|
With the fate of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue hanging in the balance, Hip-Hop co-founder DJ Kool Herc is issuing a call for supporters of the genre to help save the culture’s official birthplace. Kool Herc’s clothing company Sedgwick & Cedar Corp will launch Save 1520, a charitable collection of tees, hats and jackets. One hundred percent of net proceeds from the sale of Save 1520 clothing will go toward helping the 1520 Sedgwick Tenant Association obtain governmental and philanthropic assistance to purchase the building, in addition to preserving the project and maintain affordable housing.
"This is Hip-Hop's original house and home to the people, " said the Hip-Hop legend, who plans to appeal to major artists to make philanthropic donations to assist the tenants in purchasing the building. "We need to save it."

Exclusive Interview with Konfident
I [Latina Beatz] recently got the chance to catch up with Konfident, A Hip Hop emcee ready to take over the industry, We chatted about his New Album "Unorthodox" releasing next month!
You got a new album coming out February 28th. Who's on it and what can we expect?
The new album is titled UNORTHODOX and it features hip hop legend from Brooklyn, Buck Shot of the Black Moon/Boot Camp Click, Scarub of the Living Legends, Otherwize, and Big Chief
How long has this album been in the works?
This album was done in 2005 and it was successfully released in Japan soon after completion. But do to unfortunate circumstances with my previous Label in the US, it was never released. So, I've taken control of the situation and I'm getting it out there myself. So hopefully cats that cop it will appreciate the level of hard work that shines through the music, na'mean.
Where has your music been featured?
New York city has shown me mad love and continues to support me more than my home base...You would figure with the caliber of artists and production, let alone the lyrics that's put into this project that L.A. would support more. It's the direct opposite...DJ Ready Cee in Bronx has his thing called the djreadyceeshow.com that's played my joint with BUCK SHOT to the fullest and he has featured that joint on a few of his mix cd's that get distributed by FATBEATS. Also, Kid Capri played the joint on HOT 97 fm in New York City. But then again, Mr. Choc and Truly Odd always showed me love at Power 106's fantastic four show in Los Angeles....So I ain't hating Los Angeles, just wish they didn't get a late pass cause there is enough room for everybody to eat without being stuck and too damn Hollywood.....LOL
Is there any Release party’s/Up and coming shows in the near future?
No more of those cause we've been there and done that about a year ago, when we had Buck Shot and KRS 1show up as surprise guests at my album release show....But my crew called the Concrete Guerrillas is having our album release party along side of Masta Ace on the 24th of January.
How would you describe your style?
My style is 30 yrs of being a B-Boy coming at you all at once, but molding by the soulful aggression of a proud half Puerto Rican (Taino) African American perspective and flava...I single handily splash headliners out the water when I do my shows, so imagine what you get from me on the album. And you know what, I still haven't wrote my best rhyme and I've worked and still work and get respect from legends...so go figure...Your 50 cents, your Weezys, Soldier Boys, ya lils or ya favorite underground emcees can't fuck with what I bring to the table bar Fucken none.
What makes you different from every other emcee with an album?
My album is different because I live by the true Hip Hop Law or golden rule, and that is being fucken FRESH. I ain't trying to be or sound like no one else so I perfected being FRESH and avoided giving you the expected, na'mean.
How did you get interested in Hip Hop?
Since 1977 so do the math LOL
"Konfident" is a very confident name... What made you choose that?
I was high as hell writing rhymes one night and I got writers block suddenly after I written the first of the rhyme which was confident. Being stoned and shit, I kept starring at the word and wondering how it would look with a K....So tagged it up all over the paper and it look dope, it described me as an individual is the game or the mic, so I ran with it and copy written the name...so the shit is mine officially LOL
What do you think of the state in Hip Hop?
Hip Hop is not dead but it is garbage...Cats like 50 and the rest of these bubble gum pop cats have ruined the integrity of the culture. They rather give you some corny ass music so they can get paid, without adding on the cipher. And at the same time these legends that came before them, are on their jock when it should be the other way around....Legends like Lyte, KRS 1, Red and Meth, Rass Kass, and many others are much talented then 50 but won't say they are cause everybody has a price...well, fuck the price and I ain't bighting my tongue no more. I got a Master's degree in Political Science from CSULA, so I'll be ok without this rap game. So I do it and show my lyrical skills and integrity to preserve the culture because I love to build than to destroy something that has always played a positive role in my life. That's cats like Buck Shot and the whole Psycho Realm crew continue to build with me till this day. I love Buck, Stelle, Sick Jacken, Tony Lopez, Cynic, FM, Crow & St. Louis for supporting me off and on the mic.
Your originally from Washington D.C is that were you got your musical roots? or is it your Puerto Rican background that shapes your sound?
Yeah I would say that my East Coast swagger and being raised by my Puerto Rican pops along with the black and brown communities on the west, have influenced my style tremendously...The mixture of the East and West Coast influences gives me an edge over cats that's been raised all their lives on just one Coast. My father always listens to Latin groups like El Gran Combo from Puerto Rico, Grupo Niche from Cuba, and Oscar De Leon from Columbia. Plus [pops] likes War and Santana . My Mom listens to nothing but SOUL which we call old SOUL music, so I got the best of both worlds. But I got hit by the Hip Hop bomb in 1977, my parents shit went out the window....lol
Who have you performed with on the stage?
WOW...Just to name a few or would you like to pick a name....lol Wu-Tang in Reno, Co. In Los Angeles MF Doom, Alkoholiks, Beatnuts, KRS 1, Hierogliphics, Phife Dawg of Tribe Called Quest & Planet Asia. I went on a West Coast tour with Boot Camp Click, Masta Ace, MR. Lif, Brother Ali, Murs...ya know. I’m even going to the UK and Germany to do shows with Chino XL...so yeah I've performed with the best
Are you signed to a label? My own label called
KING KON SOUND!
Who would you like to collaborate with?
Big Duke, Sick Jacken or Rakim
It's 2008, what are some of your goals for this year regarding your music?
Show and prove that KON is a force to be wreck'n with....That's my goal and getting paid...that's it. I mouths to feed including mine and my gas tank...LOL so getting paid has a priority with me, besides serving wack ass sound-a-like emcee....If you listen to your music and you know it sounds like something that's already been done, I'm dissing you even if it is as good as JDILLA joints...he did what he had to do, so don't imitate him. If you do, you to will get dissed in 2008 LOL.
Do you produce or make beats?
No ain't got time for that shit LOL
What do you think is lacking in the way Hip Hop is portrayed?
Originality in ones delivery, style and character....nothing is changing and all emcees and beats sound the fucken same...We need that diversity back in the game.....so since no else feels they should do it, then I will.
Being that you have been around for a hot minute, what do you think needs to change for the better in the West Coast underground scene?
West Coast needs to stop sounding like every other place and start being original. We imitate the south, NYC, and that Detroit sound...But what is the West Coast sound? I'll tell you who has it and that's the Psycho Realm/Sick Symphonies familia...they got it na'mean...If you want to feel L.A, if you're not from here, then pick up their albums and you'll get it for sure...My crew Concrete Guerrillas got it too. But as a solo artist, I don't worry about that stuff...I just make good music for the love and spirit of hip hop.
Any advice for anyone trying to make it in the business?
Yeah...move the fuck outta my way for starters lol and learn to put on ya game faces when need be. Cause the game is changing rapidly and in order to assure longevity in this shit, you got to be yourself and be business at the same time. It's a tough thing to do but doing it will keep you in the game longer.
How can people reach you for contact/booking info all business or viewing?
My music is done at www.myspace.com/konfident or contact Miguel Betancourt at 818-633-3391 Paz y Mas....KONFIDENT

Rahzel New Album "Greatest Knockouts Vol. 2" Coming Soon!
|
Four years removed from his last studio effort, 2004's "Rahzel's Greatest Knockouts," Rahzel is finally completing its follow-up. Due out this summer on Ipecac Records, "Greatest Knockouts The Album, Vol. 2" marks the third solo release for the former Roots member. Currently Rahzel is finishing up recording by road testing new material with a few live dates, including Jan. 27 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Among the tracks slated to be on the new album are "Ring the Alarm" and "Come Fly With Me." The latter track finds singer Mike Patton, who also owns Ipecac, making a guest appearance. This is payback for Rahzel appearing on Patton's debut Peeping Tom record two years ago. Aside from his music, Rahzel remains busy with other endeavours. He's dabbled in acting (he has a role in the upcoming feature "Doorman") created a lucrative career doing voiceover work in movie trailers, commercials and video games and he's currently working on beat-boxing documentary, "Art of Noise," due out this summer. One Be Lo Officially No Longer With Fat Beats Records + New Album Info
|
Successful and independent emcee, producer, and business man, One Be Lo will be releasing his second solo album, The R.E.B.I.R.T.H. via his own Subterraneous Records and Integral Music Group on February 19th, 2008. The R.E.B.I.R.T.H., (Real Emcees Bring Intelligent Rhymes to Hip-Hop) is the end product of growth and the obstacles he's overcome since the release of his last album, S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M., which sold over 22,000 units in 2005. Over the past three years, One Be Lo has kept his ear to the street and his eyes on the prize. A self-empowered artist, Lo has used his business savvy and work ethic to rise above some of the challenges he faced in recent years, which included dealing with shady business partners and phony cohorts, and amicably splitting with his former record label, Fat Beats Records. The upcoming album, The R.E.B.I.R.T.H., is the end product of personal growth and the obstacles he's overcome. Armed with more business savvy, a hand picked supporting team, and a newfound hunger, Lo carefully cultivated 12 amazing songs, each with a distinct flavor held together by the unmistakable One Be Lo flow and wordplay. Now, officially declaring himself "a free agent," Lo is interested in collaborating with other artists and, if it fits, a new label home. DUB MD |

DJ Nik Bean Announces A 3 Month Mixtape Blitz!!
|
Renowned Los Angeles-based DJ Nik Bean has announced plans today to release a new mixtape project every week during the months of January, February, and March. This is exciting news for fans of California hip-hop, who have quickly come to recognize Nik's mixtapes as a street-savvy source of quality music. While Nik has created compilations for West Coast legends like Ice Cube, Tha Dogg Pound, and Jayo Felony, he is most well-known for his ability to highlight the best in new artists, as evidenced by his projects with emerging superstars Hot Dollar and Glasses Malone. Nik, known in the streets as "The Mixtape Hustler," will be on the grind more than ever with this three-month long mixtape extravaganza. A highlight from the set is "Streetz Of L.A. Volume 4," the latest installment in Nik's highly successful West Coast mixtape series. For this fourth edition, Nik has teamed up with L.A. radio heavyweight Felli Fel and Atlanta's mixtape champion DJ Drama to create what will assuredly be one of the biggest mixtape releases of the year. The involvement from Drama and Felli Fel, the latter of which recently signed with Atlanta-based So So Def Records, will combine with Nik's California-bred mentality to make the project a cross-country success in more ways than one. Nik and Felli Fel have teamed up to release four other projects together during this blitz. A Valentine's Day release with lyrical firestarter Crooked I entitled "The St. Valentine's Bossacre" will hit the streets as a surprise gift. The project will feature a variety of new and previously unreleased material. Mixtapes with G-Unit's Spider Loc, renowned writer Problem, and Aftermath-signee Stat Quo will also come from the newly formed powerhouse team. DJ Felli Fel's debut project "Go DJ" is set for an early 2008 release. A video for the nationwide hit single from the album, "Get Buck In Here," will be released next week. You can purchase "Get Buck In Here" from iTunes by clicking HERE! Nik has many more projects to put out. Solo mixtapes include "Sonically Correct" with Watts star Bangloose, Sillk Calone's "By Way Of South Central," and releases from Roscoe Umali and Yung Berg. Nik has also teamed up with Atlanta's DJ Scream and "The Butcher" DJ Vlad for a mixtape with 2Five titled "Talk Is Cheap, I Plead The 5th." The Bay Area will be excited when Nik drops Balance's "Unsigned Legend" alongside the highly-respected DJ Rah2K as well. With over ten mixtapes ready for release, Nik is giving the public many more reasons to call him "L.A.'s Mixtape King." However, it won't be long before the "Mixtape Hustler" steps into the retail album world. Nik has officially started to record material for his full-length debut album, tentatively titled "The Hustler's Manual." The project will feature an all-star lineup of West Coast acts and some very special surprise guests from other regions as well. Fans can be on the look out for the album in stores later this year. Nik is also starting "Streetz Of L.A. Radio," his weekly radio offering. The first episode will air on Sirius Satellite Radio's Shade 45 channel in the beginning of February. In addition to all of these music projects, Nik is also putting together a new DVD magazine that will be released four times annually. "Street Certified" promises to give viewers a look at the inner-workings of the hip-hop world. Artists like Crooked I, Rick Ross, Mistah F.A.B., and Glasses Malone have already contributed to the first issue, which will arrive in stores next month. DJ Nik Bean is starting 2008 off with a loud bang on the West Coast that will be heard across the nation. The three-month long mixtape blitz will simply solidify his spot as one of the hardest-working, and most prominent, mixtape DJs in the game. |

Hasan Salaam Set To Drop 2 New Albums "Children Of God" & "Life In Black & White"
Hasan Salaam has been awaiting the release date of his sophomore effort Life in Black & White with the same amount of anticipation as his fans. But what Hasan didn’t know (neither his fans), was that his hard work in the booth would result in the collection of an additional album, the prelude to Life in Black and White entitled Children of God. Following the same rawness and intensity as his classic debut album Paradise Lost, these two pieces of art are a testimony to his lyrical toughness and ever-growing knowledge of self. This year will see the release of these two albums with no major investments. A full-length documentary on Hasan entitled “Move the Crowd: The Journey of an MC” by director Khalil Hayes will be released this up coming year as well as a new website (www.hasansalaammusic.com) which will be released in January 2008. Be on the lookout for the 1st single off Children of God, “15 Minutes”. DUB MD |

Kurupt Talks About His Upcoming Movie Projects!
|
Written by Tim "Styles" Sanchez The Dogg Pound's Kurupt is no stranger to the filming cameras with over 12 movies on his resume' including the comical role as Twitch in the Steven Segal & Ja Rule action flick, "Half Past Dead." After taking the time to give an outstanding interview to XXLMag.com & Raptalk.net, Kurupt also gives us a brief run-down on his upcoming movie projects! Recording albums, starring in Reality TV shows and Movies? Kurupt truly is 100 Miles and Runnin'. Kurupt: There is a movie that I took part of called Days of Wrath that's been wrapped up. Wilmer Valderrama [That 70's Show] will be making such a grand entrance to the movie game with his role. He gave a stellar performance! People are going to see a different Wilmer than what they are used to seeing. I think he's going to get plenty of more job offers just from this film. Rick Ross, David Banner, Slim Thug and Ricardo Chavira [Desperate Housewives] also have roles in the movie. Then you have the great Laurence Fishbourne! It's a very big thing. I also have another film called Loaded that I just finished with Jesse Metcalfe [John Tucker Must Die]. Raptalk: Your character in Half Past Dead was practically a show stealer... Kurupt: [Laughs] Twitch.. Raptalk: I still get a kick of that comedic showdown at end with Mo'Nique as your lady visiting you in Prison. Kurupt: We had ourselves a ball when we were shooting that little scene. That little scene there was the most fun out of the whole movie. How can you not have fun when you are with Mo'Nique? Mo, I am with you. Fuck these skinny bitches. I like em' thick [Laughs]! Days of Wrath is currently in post-production. The movie is described as a drama depicting the intertwining lives of Los Angeles rival gang members, teachers and news crews. Taye Diggs [Brown Sugar] and Faizon Love [Friday] also star. Loaded starring Jesse Metcalfe is scheduled for a March 25th release and is listed as an action/thriller about the downward spiral of a wealthy man in to the world of sex, drugs and violence. |

Exclusive Interview With Guru & Solar
|
Raptalk.net last week caught up with Hip Hop legend Guru and super producer Solar for the first exclusive question and answer session of the year! After releasing their newest collaboration album early 2007, they are getting ready to release a brand new Jazzmatazz mixtape entitled "The Time Bomb". They sat down with Raptalk.net to speak on how they felt the project done, the artists they connected with for the album, their thoughts on the New York Hip Hop scene & state of Hip Hop and what they've both got planned for the future. Also make sure you check out the Guru & Solar track called "Cuz I'm Jazzy" featuring Detroit duo Slum Village at the end of the interview.
Dub MD: Guru & Solar, What's good? Guru: Everything's good, 7 Grand the movement baby! It's real good! Solar: Oh man what's good fam, all my real Hip Hop fans out there that's what's good, real Hip Hop is back in the building, 7 Grand the movement is really what's good my dudes! Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? Guru: Yeah, I'm a legendry hip hop icon; I started in a group called Gangstarr made some classic records that was the "golden era" of Hip Hop. Went on from there to join with the super producer Solar 2004, put together 7 Grand Records with him. Our first release 2005 "Guru version 7.0: The Street Scriptures", which was one of the Top 10 independent selling records of that year, which enabled us to go from a smaller distribution situation to a bigger one for the new project we have in stores right now on 7 Grand Records, which is entitled "Jazzmataz Volume 4" the Hip Hop Jazz message of back to the future. That's where we at right now baby! Solar: Well, what I've experienced dealing with 7 Grand Records and that's really the beginning of my career, my first album was Guru 7.0: The Street Scriptures which was released on 7 Grand, 2005, then of course this album which is the second album. So in my two album period I've amassed a pretty large, great discography working with the who's who of the industry but at the same time not really going out for that commercial sell out status. So what I've learned myself that you can be successful doing the music that I feel is relevant as apposed to going for that top radio 40 sound. Dub MD: Coming from Boston but based in New York, what do you think of the New York music scene right now? Guru: The New York music scene right now is on the up swing through 7 Grand. 7 Grand is putting the New York scene back on the map! Solar: I think it’s in a hole, I think these cats that came before us basically took it to the level of extremism on every point and definitely was in touch with what the reality of New YorkNew York from where it all was born from so I'mma stay true to this and rep it right!
Dub MD: Guru, what do you think of the commercialization of Hip Hop right now, do you think it’s showing respect to its pioneers? Guru: The commercialization of Hip Hop, you know it's been a long time in the works. I look at it like this, the listeners are realizing they're being force-fed and they're more intelligent than that and 7 Grand, myself and Solar we know that. They're coming to us to get that nutrition so to speak as Solar calls it. The mainstream tries to force feed you and push things down your throat. The listeners are tired of that and their looking for something more and here we are. Dub MD: Solar, a lot of people are saying "Hip Hop Is Dead" lately, how do you feel about the current state of hip hop? Solar: I don't think is dead, I think it’s been kidnapped and duck taped. They got it in the basement, slapping it around a little bit but Guru & Solar's gonna get it back and put it back where it need to be! Dub MD: Do you have a new project in the works? What’s it called? And what can heads out there expect from it? Guru: 7 Grand has a lot in store. I can't tell you too much but we got something bananas coming in the new years, for those who wanna know more holla at us www.myspace.com/guru7grand, www.myspace.com/solar7grand, check out www.gurusjazzmataz.net and www.guru7grand.net but holla at us on the myspace. You'll definitely find out what's going on! Solar: We got a new album coming early 2008, fortunately there's some creative vampires out there with a lot of money and they study what me and Guru are doing then they take it and put a lot of money behind it and make it look like its their own. So unfortunately for you heads out there I can't speak too much on it. Check us out on myspace and we gonna keep you posted, but that's the way things are. These people ain't creative; they're too busy sitting around doing other things, and making music or coming up with anything relevant or fresh. As soon as me and Guru do it they take it all over TV and Radio and try and make it look like it’s theirs. So unfortunately they're hurting ya'll cuz we can't really talk about it. But know this 7 Grand has got a constant stream for product coming for you!
Dub MD: With this project, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round? Guru: On the new project, we got Jazzamataz Vol. 4 in stores, the Hip Hop Jazz message of back to the future. 16 bangers produced by super producer Solar, it's a classic. We got everybody on there from Common, Slum to Damien Marley to the Jazz greats Bob James, David Sandbourne, Ronnie Laws, we got Keira Wheeler, Dion Ferris, Raheem DeVaughn, Omar. It’s just a star studded line up and big up to Blackalious as well and others. Its some of our best work, if you haven't heard the album, go out and get it, it's a classic. It takes the Jazzmataz legacy and the whole Jazzmataz concept to new heights, big up to the super producer Solar for coming with the craziest tracks and just musically just lacing the album. We got another joint coming out very soon, just stay tuned, like I said hit us up on the myspace so you can find out what's going on, that album is crazy. All I can say to you that its bananas! Solar: Jazzmataz 4 has a full range of a spectrum of music, it’s so diverse that is represents everything that Jazzamataz and Guru's represented but then we take it to the next level. So I mean its a vast array of music and that we're very proud of bringing to the market, where it looks like you can't even go anywhere without having a song played 200 million times of the radio all day that's the same drum sounds that have been used for 15 years, the same one finger hooks. So this is a musical album. It’s an album that bring legends, masters of the fields of their music, masters of their instrument, whether it be their voice or be an musical instrument and brought with a tip notch level of spitting by Guru, Slum Village & Common, Blackalicious and of course I'm behind the boards killin’ it. So I don't really care where your coming from musically, this is something that will definitely expand your musical tastes, definitely takes Hip Hop to the next level and if you’re not really checking on this you can't really say your Hip Hop. Dub MD: Your most recent album Jazzmataz Vol.4 is in stores right now, Are you happy with how that release has went so far? Guru: Yes I'm very happy with the current release of Jazzmataz 4, I'm proud of the fact that myself and Solar were able to put together such an illustrious group of world class musicians and vocalists, you know, its so diverse to, I mentioned the names previously, its such a diverse group of people and there's something for everybody on this album, the production is cutting edge, you can listen to it from beginning to end and enjoy every bit of it, so its a great piece of work and I'm very proud of it. Solar: We're very happy with the way the release you know, its an independent release, we didn't really expect phenomenal sales but we did expect the real to check in and the numbers are solid around the world, we got solid real head numbers, we're not in it for the Lamborghinis and Rolls Royce’s, them dudes got all that 3 billion ring tones, have that. Guru and Solar are gonna keep it real; keep the real music coming for the real heads, the real movement, 7 Grand holla! Dub MD: Can you tell us a little about 7 Grand Records? Do you have any artists we need to lookout for? Guru: 7 Grand Records is beyond a record label, it's a movement! When I speaking earlier on the fact that the intelligent listeners are tired of being force fed and are looking for more 7 grand is the place to come to get more, to get stimulated and to get that mental elevation that they need and so forth, it's a beautiful thing. For those who wanna know more, like I said holla on the myspace pages, they'll be information there for you, if you wanna join the movement for real! Dub MD: Solar, how did you hook up with Guru? Solar: We got together as friends little bit over 6 years ago and we just hit it off We was running round New York on some grown man, getting in some trouble shit, enjoying the clubs, and the scene was pretty good back in then 2003 / 2004. It was a decent scene but at the same time, we seen what was being represented was right and exact and it wasn't what the world was looking at New York for because you know what there is people with massive amounts of money all around the planet, the dollars not even doing good just now. So how you gonna brag about what you got when the dollar is slipping? There's cats with way more money than we got and there not really interested in all this non sensible lease cars and stupid looking porno broads and all this kind of nonsense. So me & Guru seen this coming so we started 7 Grand to be the alternate to how they look right now, stupid! Dub MD: Guru, what do you think is you’re most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? Guru: I would say my most defining and unique characteristic is my voice and my dedication to the art form and culture because I could've went a whole different way with things and basically sold out for the big money as apposed to hanging in there and staying true and really keeping it real, (laughs) and that's what its about. The fact I got the super producer down with me that's like I got an arsenal with me now, it's on and popping! Dub MD: Solar, what do you think is you’re most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other producer out there? Solar: That's a complicated question and that could really take up a whole article in its self. I don't like to brag on myself and I don't like to speak on my own talents like that. I'm just gonna say that I'm unique in all aspects from my name to the way I live and to really know how unique I am. You'd have to know people that know me personally because if you knew me personally then you'd know how the music and me the man. Solar, brings forward his individual style. Dub MD: Guru, if you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, what would they be? Guru: To describe myself as an emcee in four words I would say Universal, Intelligent, and Streetwise & Captivating that means I can hold a crowd! Dub MD: Guru, for your fans who haven't seen you perform yet, are you planning a worldwide tour anytime soon? Guru: We've been touring worldwide with Jazzmataz 4 since early June, If you haven't seen it you decently gotta some to the show. The show is bananas, the energy level, the level of sonic perfection that you get, the shows produced by Solar. He put a lot into it, its incredible! I don't wanna say to much cuz if you haven't seen it, it's something that you need to see, one of the best Hip Hop shows on the planet! If you want more information check out the myspace pages and there will be more information on when we'll be in a spot near you. Dub MD: What is on tap for Guru & Solar for the rest of 2007/08 and beyond? Guru: Got a lot of things on tap, got a new project coming up after Jazzmataz lookout for that. For the details like I said check the myspace page and you'll find out what's popping. It’s an incredible project, it’s as I said bananas, so stay tuned! Solar: We're on tour now, we're definitely picking up on the rest of the world, you start a world tour all the way back beginning so we did all Europe, we did all United States. We just touched on Canada so we're getting ready to pick up on the rest of the world, so touring is important. I'm in the studio right now finishing up projects, I've got my album coming 2008, Solar: 5000 Degrees & Burning, we got some other projects coming on 7 Grand, I’ll continue to direct. I directed two videos "State Of Clarity" which is animated, also Guru & Slum Village track video so yeah I’m just creating, being in my zone right now.
Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? Anything you wanna get off your chest? Any shout outs? Guru: I wanna shout out all the fans, supporters, all the real heads, all those who love real Hip Hop, B-Boys, B-Girls (laughs), music lovers, and connoisseurs. Big up to everybody who's been representing and holding it down for me and look for more in the future because it don't stop, it's flowing like water baby. I got the super producer with me and we taking it to new heights right now, that's wassup, 7 Grand the movement! Solar: Well I always say big up to the fans, my dudes, my real hip hop peoples out there and any females that are holding it down on the real Hip Hop tip. I mean I got love, 7 Grand's got love, we support you wither you know we do or not. We're out here fighting for you guys because just as much as you got Hip Hop there are those who will take it away from you. I mean this is the first time in history that you have been saddled with one sound on radio 24 hours a day across the country, radio has never deteriorated to that level of stagnancy, its mentally stagnant, it's like a puddle of rotten water. You need to look for something fresh, you wanna live mentally, you wanna spiritually look to your leadership, Guru, Solar, 7 Grand the movement, big up, love, trust us, we got this! Exclusive Kurupt Interview For XXLMag.com & Extended Interview With Raptalk.net
|
Our own Styles hooked up with West Coast Hip Hop legend Kurupt for a special and in depth interview for XXLMag.com and a unique extended bonus Q & A interview for Raptalk.net. Kurupt discusses the situation regarding Cash Money Records, the new DPG album 100 Wayz, working with Sebastian Bach on MTV's show Celebrity Rap Star, his upcoming solo album with a mystery producer and his collaboration album with fellow West Coast legend DJ Quik! And there's more too!! As always, there were length requirements for the XXL website interview, so there were things that had to be cut out. So what I've done is collect the edited Q & A's and compiled them for an exclusive Raptalk feature on top of the feature that was done for the magazine's website. Be sure to click on the link below to read the interview for XXLMag.com and also please drop a comment below the interview at the site's comment section! CLICK HERE TO READ THE EXCLUSIVE FEATURE ON KURUPT FOR XXLMAG.COM Now, please read below for the extended Raptalk interview! Kurupt & his wife Gail Gotti on their new marriage Kurupt: Today was a big day for me. It was my little sister’s 16th birthday. Her mom is my God-mother Teena Marie (the R & B singer). So that’s where I was earlier. We also got some mixes done today in the studio. We are coming with this Dogg Pound album. The haters are going to hate to the left (motioning to his wife Gail Gotti who is sitting to his left). You’ve got haterade in the building. [Gail Interrupts] Oh, I am going to sit in on this part. I want to see what kind of answers you give to Styles. Kurupt: Do you see what I have to deal with? Styles: First off all, congratulations on your guy’s wedding. I saw the pictures and they came out nice. Kurupt: Thank you. We just celebrated our 4 month anniversary. To keep things alive, we are going to celebrate every 4 months. Styles: How is the married life treating you? Kurupt: For me it’s a lot easier. I don’t know about her. But for me, it’s a lot easier. Gail: I think it’s the same. We’ve been living like we were married for years really. Kurupt: She knows that I am the man and what I say goes. The motto of marriage is “What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is mine!” So now we’ve got an understanding to the fullest. She starts up and it’s “Pow!” Gail: (sighs) Anyway. Life after marriage is wonderful though. It gave us a 2nd wind and rejuvenated us. Styles: Where did you guys Honeymoon at? Gail: In Italy. Kurupt: Sailing in the boats. Kurupt On MTV's Celebrity Rap Star Styles: With Kendra there, did you get to hang around “the man” Hugh Hefner? Kurupt: That’s another thing I told Sebastian, “How can you beat Hugh?” A person that brings Hugh Hefner to the table? The game is over. I’m shocked that Shar won with the kind of leverage that Kendra had. Hugh is such a fuckin’ boss! I chopped it up with Hugh though. I was like, “What it do O.G.?” He was like, “I’m younger than you boy.” Styles: Were some of the other coaches like Warren G and Tone Loc jealous that you had such an easy talent to work with? Kurupt: Not at all. Even though it was a competition, it was like one big family. Warren G, Tone Loc, and Bubba Sparxx. MC Lyte is like my sister. You already know my history with Redman. Bizarre is my number one nigga. He and Proof (RIP) were my number one niggas from D-12. Everybody knew each other and had love and respect for one another. Styles: I would have laughed my ass off though if you had gotten paired with Perez Hilton or that dude from The O.C. Kurupt: Jason? That’s my guy though. He’s funny as fuck. Bubba told me so many stories with him and Jason. Me and Jason party big. Even Perez was cool. The most shocking out of all things was Perez. That one rap he did brought the Hip Hop out in him. He was dissin’ and smashin’ people. That nigga was just bustin’ cuzz! Then he said, “I am the Queen” and he lost me there (laughs). Styles: How did you get on the show? Did you contact them? Or did they contact you? Kurupt: They came to me with it. MTV contacted my agent David Weintraub. Kurupt On The Chemisty of The DPG Group Styles: A lot of people get put together and don’t have chemistry. I know that Snoop brought you all together as a group. When did you guys get past being just rap partners but actually brothers? Kurupt: When I first got with Snoop that was solidified. We got in to the game together. We’ve had trouble with our own neighborhoods over what we were pushing. We started our own gang! We don’t gangbang anymore like that. None of us. We keep away from the bullshit. It’s something that we were raised in to. It’s still there but its not because now we are fathers. Snoop has his football league for the kids. We’ve each gone through our own things. There was a time when Daz was mad at everything. He was still at Death Row and me and Snoopy were gone. Then he came home and I disappeared in to fuckin’ la-la land. Then I was mad at the motherfuckin’ world and then I came back. We’ve been through it all and we are still here pushing. Dogg Pound Gangstas is the symbol of eternity. Stay tuned next week for an update on Kurupt's Movie Projects!! |

Listen To The Lovely R & B Sounds Of Krys Ivory
|
Written By Tim "Styles" Sanchez We normally don't have R & B music here on Raptalk. It's not that I don't enjoy that genre of music, because I do at times. But enjoy something enough to write about? Rarely. There are exceptions though and one of those exceptions is the lovely, talented and angelic-like Krys Ivory from Los Angeles, CA. Why Krys? Well, first of all take a look at that pic! Ok, she's probably reading this so I will pretend I didn't say that. But seriously, in her music she tends to find that right mixture of innocence and sexiness without over doing either. There's that warmth in her sound, the kind that men like to come home to and hear after a crappy or hard day. You get that girl-next-door feel in her songs instead of the extremely out of reach Superstar Diva. Anyway, it's a rarity here but as long as I keep getting songs like these that reach me, I will give it a home here at Raptalk. Use the links below to download these 2 songs by Krys Ivory. Don't worry, I have good taste. If I enjoyed them, I am most certain that you will too! CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD "B.A.B.Y." BY KRYS IVORY FEAT. PROBLEM (PROD.
