Hes sits down to talk about the new Little Brother album "Get Back", His new solo projects and what sets him apart from every other emcee out there right now. Make sure you check out the new Big Pooh track called "Plastic Cups" featuring Chaudon & Joe Scudda at the end of the interview, enjoy! Dub MD: Big Pooh, What's good? Big Pooh: Whats good fam! Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? Big Pooh: A lot of ups and downs man. Being in this business is like being on a roller coaster ride for real. It will test your patience, dedication, morals, and man hood. Dub MD: Coming from Durham, what do you think of the North Carolina music scene right now? Big Pooh: It's a budding scene. It is a lot of talent down here but North Carolina has to learn how to support North Carolina before anyone else will take a look and really respect whats going on down here. Dub MD: A lot of people are saying "Hip Hop Is Dead" lately, how do you feel about the current state of hip hop? Big Pooh: I don't believe Hip Hop is dead. I believe that we allowed people that's not of this culture to govern what we built. We allowed them to come in, take over and set new rules for Hip Hop. Now they are telling us what is hot, what the music suppose to sound like, etc. I think that if we can get some kind of balance in the game then hip hop will be alright. Dub MD: You've got a new Little Brother album about to drop called "Get Back", What can heads out there expect when they hear this album? Big Pooh: They can expect to hear the Little Brother sound updated. We just go into each album trying to give you something different from the last album. This album has more of a dynamic to it. It's a brighter sounding, lighter, record from the last record we put out. Just us having fun, enjoying making music. Dub MD: With this album, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round? Big Pooh: For this album we have on production Khrysis, Illmind, 9th Wonder, Nottz, Hi-tek, Denaun Porter, Rashid Hadee, and Zo. Guest appearences, Lil Wayne and our new artist Jozeemo out of East Durham. "I have no problem showing vulnerability. I share my ups and downs with the listener. Let them know that I go through shit just like they do." Dub MD: What's your label situation like just now? Big Pooh: We are back independent, rolling with ABB for this record. After this one we are free agents. Dub MD: You've had a couple of solo tracks out recently, Is there a Big Pooh solo album on the horizon? Big Pooh: Oh yeah man, I got a couple albums in the works right now. The first one is "Dirty Pretty Things" coming around February. Then I'm working on a record with the producer Nottz as well as a record with the producer Oh No. Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? Big Pooh: I have no problem showing vulnerability. I share my ups and downs with the listener. Let them know that I go through shit just like they do. How Andre 3000 said it "...I've been going through the same things that he has, true I got more fans than the average man.." (from "Elevators" off of the ATliens album) Just that whole verse sums up what I'm going through. Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, What would they be? Big Pooh: Passionate, Persistent, Student & Humble Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet are you or Little Brother planning a worldwide tour anytime soon? Big Pooh: We are going out on the U.S. tour for this new album starting in Oct. 17 in Boston. Check the myspace page, www.myspace.com/littlebrother for all the stops on the tour. It's only 20 dates on their right now but more are coming soon. Dub MD: What is on tap for Big Pooh for the rest of 2007 and beyond? Big Pooh: Touring, dropping more dope records, some more touring, and a couple of other things I want to keep under wraps for now. Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs? Big Pooh: Thank you to all the Little Brother supporters! Middle finger to all the Little Brother haters! Get Back coming soon! DUB MD
