Raptalk this week hooked up with Brooklyn native Blitz The Ambassador for an exclusive Q&A session, hes sits down with Raptalk.net to talk about his new album "Suicide Sterotype", his feelings on the current state of rap music and his plans for the future. Make sure you checkout the crazy new track from the album "Hands Of Time" at the end of the interview. Dub MD: Blitz, What's good? Blitz The Ambassador: Chilling, in the studio mixing my new project Suicide Stereotype. Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? Blitz The Ambassador: Well, I'm originally from Ghana, I moved to Brooklyn and I've been in the game for over 10 years. I have two albums out, 'Soul Rebel' in 2004 and 'Double Consciousness' in 2005. I've toured with The Roots, Dead Prez, De La Soul, Talib Kweli and KRS-One to name a few. Dub MD: Coming from Brooklyn, what do you think of the New York music scene right now? Blitz The Ambassador: It's complex, there are still a lot of dope M.C's coming from NYC like Joell Ortiz and such, the problem is the industry is not really down to support that sound anymore. When I think New York I think lyrics and to me that's the foundation of MCing. So it will be nice to see a few more lyrical cats in the game regardless where they from. Dub MD: A lot of people are saying "Hip Hop Is Dead" lately, how do you feel about the current state of hip hop? Blitz The Ambassador: My thoughts on this is simple, Hip-Hop is dead to you if you are dead to it. Look at the first week sales and compare, Kanye outsold 50 Cent, Talib Kweli outsold Swizz Beatz, Common outsold Plies, So how can Hip-Hop be dead? Its all about fair competition fam, if they let us compete on the same level, with the same marketing and promotion, there is no doubt that true MC's will takeover from these jingle ringtone rappers. Dub MD: Do you have a new album in the works? what's it called & what can your fans expect? Blitz The Ambassador: Yes I have a classic in the works...its called 'Suicide Stereotype'. Its taken me 3 years to finish. I built the tracks like a score for a movie. I did a joint with a German string orchestra, A joint with a Chicago based Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. I'm just trying to push the bounderies fam. I look at what Kanye did for the game in '04 and thats what I'm trying to do in '08. Even my album cover artwork (A guy in a suite with a boombox head blowing his brains out) is something that I designed myself and is bound to get peoples attention. I've made a Hip-Hop classic period! Dub MD: With this album, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round? Blitz The Ambassador: We are still negotiating a couple cameo's for the album... tring to get a legend or two on the project. As far as production, I worked with one main producer, Optiks but we made it happen with a bunch of studio musicians, arranging live horns, guitars, strings, drums etc. Dub MD: What's your label situation like just now? Blitz The Ambassador: We are shopping the album right now. We have a couple offers on the table, wont say no names...but its looking like this is going to be a mjor release. "Hip-Hop is dead to you if you are dead to it, look at the first week sales and compare, Kanye outsold 50 Cent, Talib Kweli outsold Swizz Beatz, Common outsold Plies, So how can Hip-Hop be dead?" Dub MD: You've got a track out right now called "Hands Of Time" which is crazy, what's the response been like for that so far? Blitz The Ambassador: 'Hands of Time' is just a quick sneak peak on what the album is going to be like, We got a lot of love from all over, even radio picked up the joint without us pushing it as a single. Its thats classic sound that we are going for. Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? Blitz The Ambassador: First of all, I'm from Ghana fam,...thats why I'm the Ambassador. I'm already different when I step out there because of my background. I talk about things from two perspectives all the time. So you add Brooklyn to Ghana and you got a whole other sound...my subject matter is broader than the average rapper. I speak about the struggle in the hood and I speak about the struggle on the continent. Not too many artist can do that. Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, What would they be? Blitz The Ambassador: Original,.. Original,.. Original,.. Original. Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet are you planning a worldwide tour anytime soon? Blitz The Ambassador: Yep, I'm already on a College tour for the fall so check for the dates at www.myspace.com/blitztheambassador and after that I'm starting my international tour to push Suicide Stereotype. Dub MD: What is on tap for Blitz The Ambassador for the rest of 2007 and beyond? Blitz The Ambassador: I'm finishing a screenplay for a movie I'm planning to direct in Ghana. I'm all about bringing more african artist into the mainstream so this is a good opportunity to use film and music to rep my people. I'm already working on the soundtrack. Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs? Blitz The Ambassador: Suicide Stereotype is coming soon. Keep holding down the Hip-Hop Embassy. One love. DUB MD
