RapTalk.net Exclusive Q&A Interview Session w/ Chaundon

Raptalk.net this week caught up with Bronx native and Hall Of Justus member Chaundon for an exclusive question and answer session. Chaundon has just released his new mixtape entitled "Venom" and "Ambitions Of A Writer" onto the streets in preparation for the countless projects he has in the works, hes taken time out of his hectic schedule to chop it up about his thoughts on Hip Hop in New York City right now, his up coming projects and what sets him apart from every other emcee out there. Make sure you check out the brand new Chaundon track called "Juggernaut" produced by Khrysis from his new mixtape "Ambitions Of A Writer" at the end of the interview.

Dub MD: Chaundon, What's good?
Chaundon: Nothing but these dope records I am about to put out!

Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now?
Chaundon: Man, to put it short, I've worked with the best in the game and legendry producers believe in my career well enough to invest in it!

Dub MD: Coming from The Bronx, what do you think of the New York music scene right now?
Chaundon: Funny you should ask that! New York is drowning in a sea of wack music. The only ones walking on water beside myself is Skyzoo, Torae, Sean Price (Boot Camp Clik), Sha Stimuli, D.V. Alias Khryst and well the New York emcees featured on my mixtapes. The commercial aspect of New York is dead to me. There hasnt been a complete album that I can be proud to say "This is from my city!" since Get Rich Or Die Trying. (don't front that album was dope no matter what you think about 50)

It seems to me as if the so called "Leaders of New York" is following the south and making bad attempts to capture "the hit single" or "most downloaded ringtone" But truthfully I dont give a fuck. Let them continue to fall of into the realm of irrelavance. It just creates more room for emcees like me to get in the game, dominate, and raise the bar to the height it was intended to be. I wont tolerate bullshit from my city and I wont make excuses for the nonsense any longer. I will take it in my own hands and reset the standards. The Bronx created this thing of ours. Its time that the emcee who was born 8 minutes away from the very park the culture was conceived and birthed, to take the torch and actually lead. BX Stand Up!

Dub MD: A lot of people are saying "Hip Hop Is Dead" lately, how do you feel about the current state of hip hop?
Chaundon: It ain't dead, it's wack until my album comes out!

Dub MD: Do you have a new project in the works? what's it called? and what can heads out there expect from it?
Chaundon: I have 5 projects in the works. "Carnage" is the 1st to drop on January 29th, 2008 thanks to the good folks at HOJ / Defend. "No Excuses", my official LP is done, just looking for the right situation for it. The other 3 LPs are almost done. Get at me around December for a follow up interview and I will speak more in depth about those. The world can expect Hip Hop from these albums just like the feeling they had between the years of 1992-1996. I ain't playing!

Dub MD: With this project, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round?
Chaundon: On "Carnage" I have 9th Wonder, Ill Mind, Khrysis, Foolery, and D-1 on the boards. The emcees, Big Pooh, Darien Brockington, Joe Scudda, Jozeemo, Skyzoo, Torae, D.V. Alias Khryst, G.O.D, Sha Stimuli, Charlie Smarts, Sean Price, Emilio Rojas, M.A.G and the late great Percy Miracles!

"I will take it in my own hands and reset the standards. The Bronx created this thing of ours. It's time that the emcee who was born 8 minutes away from the very park the culture was conceived and birthed, to take the torch and actually lead. BX Stand Up!"

Dub MD: What's your label situation like just now?
Chaundon: I'm not signed to a label, I just have a situation to put this first project out. There's are a few offers on the table but I am not at liberty to speak on those until something is solidified.

Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there?
Chaundon: I am the punchline king! Another characteristic that sets me apart from the rest is that I am not scared to sound like Chaundon and only Chaundon. Hip Hop was built on originality. Since no one is built like me, I see it fit to put forth honest music.

Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, What would they be?
Chaundon: The Greatest Emcee Alive! Yep, that's four words (laughs)

Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet, are you planning a worldwide tour anytime soon?
Chaundon: Mos def! I'm looking into different markets right now to start Chaundon Mania! If you have any contacts with promoters send them my way. If any promoters are reading this, contact me at
chaundonmusic@gmail.com. Let's give the people what they've been looking for.

Dub MD: What is on tap for Chaundon for the rest of 2007 and beyond?
Chaundon: To write and put out more albums than 2Pac and live to see every one of them hit the stores, the streets, and to terrorize the weak hearted, fake rappers around the world. I HATE WACK RAPPERS, go get a job!

Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs?
Chaundon: Buy my mixtapes "Venom" and "Ambitions Of A Writer" they are available on my myspace page
www.myspace.com/chaundon The paypal button is located under the "Ambitions Of A Writer" cover. Its also available at www.Fatbeats.com, www.hiphopsite.com and the Fat Beats store in NYC and LA. But if you want the autographed copy, cop it from me through paypal!

Buy my album "Carnage" when it hits the stores on January 29, 2008. Cop Little Brothers album "Get Back" it's in stores now! Cop 9th Wonder's "Dream Merchant Volume 2" in stores now. If you don't already have them, cop Darien Brockington's LP "Somebody to Love" and the Hall Of Justus Compilation "Soldiers Of Forturne". Shout outs to my family, my HOJ family, Tashawn, Custom Made Ent., Defend, Hunts Pont Ave, The Bronx, and everything that embodies true Hip Hop, 1ne!
