RapTalk's back with another exclusive question and answer session this time with ex Roca-A-Fella artist Omillio Sparks. Omillio is back on his grind with a brand new album "The Payback" in stores right now. Hes sits down with Rap Talk to talk about his new album, his movie plans & how he feels about hip hop in Philly right now. Make sure you check out the new Omillio Sparks track at the end called "So Down" produced by MoSS, Enjoy! Dub MD: Omillio Sparks, What's good? Omillio Sparks: Everything Dub… I have just released my album The Payback! It’s in stores nationwide, and it’s only the beginning for your boy. I just launched a new film division called Colossal Films. I got my first movie coming out during the holiday season. It’s going down! Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? Omillio Sparks: Well I started my career on the underground circuit with my boy Oschino, and then got signed with Jay-Z and Damon Dash and was apart of the whole Rocafella movement. I was on some of the hottest Rocafella hits, I wrote the hook to Jay-Z’s "Just Wanna Love You", and was in the video. Then of course, I moved to the movie scene and did the State Property Movies. Dub MD: Coming from Philadelphia, what do you think of the Philly music scene right now? Omillio Sparks: I think Philly has a movement right now, but Philly artists can’t get their shit out there, cuz everyones too busy hating on the next rapper. You got Gillie and Cassidy going at it now, Beans back with Rocafella, and Freeway trying to get his project’s out there. Oh yeah, then theres Peedi Crakk and the Gunnerz that still can’t get their shit off the ground and they with Def Jam, if you know what I’m saying, there’s no real love between Philly artists, that’s why we all divided and can’t be major in the industry. Dub MD: A lot of people are saying "Hip Hop Is Dead" lately, how do you feel about the current state of hip hop? Omillio Sparks: Hip Hop isn’t dead, there’s just a loss of respect for it. The media people, and the program directors at these stations are only playing that bubble gum rap shit, so real artist don’t get their shine or get recognized for putting out true hip hop music! Dub MD: Do you have any new project s in the works? What’s it called & what can your fans expect? Omillio Sparks: I have the film company getting off the ground and I’m about to go into production of the second movie called "Expendable", Starring Jim Jones, Tray Chaney, Snoop from the Wire, and some other acts. I’m about to put my team, The Movement out there. Dub MD: With this album, what producers & artists are you connecting with this time round? Omillio Sparks: I got good production from Versatile & Dilemma, Black Key, KP of Fontez Camp, and Ruggedness. Peedi and I got a few joints on there. "Philly artists can’t get their shit out there, cuz everyones too busy hating on the next rapper, there’s no real love between Philly artists, that’s why we all divided and can’t be major in the industry." Dub MD: What's your label situation like just now? Omillio Sparks: I got my own label, Colossal Entertainment. I have business partners and we have distribution through Koch for 9 Albums, So your boy Omillio, will be here for a while! Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? Omillio Sparks: I am truly talented, I have the ability to executive produce my albums, I write my own music, and put together songs. I have lived the life that I am talking about. I have a passion for what I do, and at the end of the day it comes out in my music. Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as a n emcee in 4 words, What would they be? Omillio Sparks: I’ll give you two “Lyrical Assassin”, not to many out there in hip hop can get with me right now, I’m on fire! Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet are you planning a worldwide tour anytime soon? Omillio Sparks: Yeah most def! We will be launching the “Turn it Up Tour” this fall hitting up major cities and college campuses. Dub MD: What is on tap for Omillio Sparks for the rest of 2007 and beyond? Omillio Sparks: Promoting, Promoting, Promoting! I got the Dj Turn it Up Remix contest out there so I need to be looking at getting that remix out there, and just completing my movies, and getting back in the studio. Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs? Yeah Shout out to my boys at Colossal, and make sure you support The Movement and cop my album THE PAYBACK! and holla at your muthafuckin boi. DUB MD
