Raptalk.net is back with another exclusive Q&A session this time with Toronto emcee Prince Ali. P.A. sits down to talk about his thoughts on the canadian hip hop scene, his new project "I Miss 1994" and working with legendary MC Tragedy Khadafi. Make sure you check out his new track "Grew Up" at the end of the interview! Enjoy! Dub MD: Prince Ali, What's good? Prince Ali: Peace, Chilling my dude. Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? Prince Ali: My name is Prince Ali also known as PA from Toronto. I just dropped the I Miss 1994 EP. I'm an up and comer in this rap game and I experienced alot of politics so far. Dub MD: Coming from Toronto, what do you think of the Canadian music scene right now? Prince Ali: Theres plenty talented individuals in Toronto but the scene is being held back and oppressed by the media outlets. The music we make is treated and labeled as "amateurs night out" indirectly, and that reflects on the consumers and will never enable them to see us in the same light as other artists on the national stage. Dub MD: Alot of people are saying "Hip Hop Is Dead" lately, how do you feel about the current state of hip hop? Prince Ali: The current state of hip hop needs balance because too much of anything isn't good for you. If the radio only played "real hip hop" everyone would be sick of "real hip hop" I just think the state of hip hop needs balance on the mainstream level. Dub MD: Do you have a new album / mixtape in the works? whats it called & what can your fans expect? Prince Ali: Yeah I got plenty projects I'm sitting on right now but I'm just sitting here and formulating my next move in terms of putting something out that wouldn't hurt me financially because it takes money to put together something. I'm looking to put a 12" out when the time is right and I'm gonna put out a street album end of this year just to keep some music circulating. Dub MD: With this new project, what producers & artists are you connecting with this time round? Prince Ali: Much like my last project "I Miss 1994" it will have some classic cats I'm connecting with up in New York City. I'm not a fan of letting the cat out of the bag because things always change or don't go down the way you planned. Dub MD: Whats your label situation like just now? Prince Ali: I have a label that I may put a 12" out with, with distribution, next year (god willing) if everything pans out right! "The music we make is treated and labeled as "amateurs night out" indirectly, and that reflects on the consumers and will never enable them to see us in the same light as other artists on the national stage" Dub MD: You've recently recorded a track "Righteous Scrolls" with the legendary Tragegy Khadafi, How did you hook up with him? Prince Ali: I got his contact through someone thats peoples and the mahdi is a good muslim brother and he did me a big favor, sent me the joint done and got it on alllhiphop.com for the kid and it just started circulating and hes currently locked up so hold ya head my dude and blessings to the mahdi, aura check. Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet are you planning a worldwide tour anytime soon? Prince Ali: It all depends on the promoters and getting booked and hopefully that goes down in the future. Everything happens in due time. Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? Prince Ali: Realistically this is where everyone throws a marketing pitch out about themselves but at the end of the day nothing under the sun is new or original its just a matter of doing what you do and being passionate about what you do and that's what I bring. The music I make is just easy to listen to elevator type of hip hop with a Jazz influence. I sing and harmonize and do all kinds of shit but you will hear more of that in the future shit. Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, What would they be? Prince Ali: Old School Hip Hop. Dub MD: What is on tap for Prince Ali for the rest of 2007 and beyond? Prince Ali: Alot of music and videos and everything else. Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs? Prince Ali: Thanks for the love and support. I want to give a shout out to my dude Incise who crafted I Miss 1994 with me. Thank you for taking the time Rap Talk to see what's popping with ya boy. Everybody out in the United Kingdom. Bless up You can download my EP for FREE "I Miss 1994" Featuring Tragedy Khadafi, OGC, Craig G, Kev Brown, and Incise and many more on it ... DUB MD
