Make sure you checkout his new track "Cop & Go" featuring Sha Stimuli & Maino & download his new official mixtape, Enjoy! Dub MD: Skyzoo, What's good? Skyzoo: What's good yo. I'm just on the grind as usual. Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? Skyzoo: I been rhyming since I was 9 and I'm 24 now so it's been a minute. I've done everything from theme music for ESPN and Guinness Stout Beer to spots on BET and MTV to been on shows with The Clipse and DMX and Eve and The Roc to dropping tons mixtapes to an EP with super producer 9th Wonder. I've done a lot but there's tons more that I wanna accomplish. Dub MD: Coming from the NYC, what do you think of the New York music scene right now? Skyzoo: I think the scene is slowly coming back. I think we need more hits though. More hit makers to make the world notice or prominence, as opposed to just the boroughs. That and more unity. But we're making our way and I love my city. There's nothing like it. Dub MD: What do you think of the commercialisation of hip hop, do you think its showing respect to its pioneers? Skyzoo: I think it is because the pioneers fought to get the music heard all over the world, to get the music on a national level, to get the respect of everyone on the planet to know we are the most dominant culture, period. We've succeeded at that, so they are definitely proud, but the quality of the music is gone, and that's something that I know they're disappointed in. Dub MD: You have a new mixtape in the streets right now called "Corner Store Classic", what has the response been like so far? Skyzoo: The response has been amazing. The people have taken to it like nothing ever before. Every web site has given it flawless ratings, it's been on BET's Rap City as the "mixtape pick of the week", it's gonna be in 4 major magazines in the same month, it's been phenomenal. Dub MD: Do you have a new album or mixtape in the works?, what's its it called & what can your fans expect? Skyzoo: Well being that Corner Store Classic just came out, I'm definitely gonna let this one ride out for awhile. There will definitely be another mixtape coming afterwards but it'll be awhile before that happens. It's gonna be even bigger than this one though. I haven't named it yet but I already started brainstorming it and I know how I wanna do it. The official debut album will be called "The Salvation". That's my "Illmatic", my "Ready To Die", my Reasonable Doubt" and "Only Built For Cuban Linx". Whenever I get my major deal then that LP will follow shortly after. "It's my ability to be relevant to today's fans but still get the love and respect of yesterdays fans. Being able to rock with the mainstream and underground crowds effortlessly. It all comes from just being myself." Dub MD: With this new project, what producers & artists are you connecting with this time around? Skyzoo: With the Corner Store Classic mixtape I've got Ron Browz, 9th Wonder, Dj Premier, Black Milk, Illmind, Khrysis, and tons of others. Artist wise I have Sean Price, Maino, Guilty Simpson, Torae, Stimuli, and more. For the future stuff, who knows who I'll wind up working with. Just expect it to be greatness. Dub MD: You've been working pretty closely with 2 of the biggest producers in the game lately, 9th Wonder & DJ Premier, how did you hook up with them? Skyzoo: I met 9th through my man Chaundon back in 2005. I've maintained a great relationship with the whole J League since then. Preemo I met through a friend of mine who put him on to my music and he liked what I was doing and approached me about doing a song. One song turned into 2 and now I have wax out with a legend. It's crazy. Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? Skyzoo: My versatility and authenticity. It's my ability to be relevant to today's fans but still get the love and respect of yesterdays fans. Being able to rock with the mainstream and underground crowds effortlessly. It all comes from just being myself. Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet are you planning a worldwide tour anytime soon? Skyzoo: Hopefully so. I love hitting the stage and I love to travel so once this is all set up I will definitely be on the road in a city near you. Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, what would they be? Skyzoo: Versatile, Authentic, Impactful & Complete. Dub MD: What is on tap for Skyzoo for the rest of 2007 and beyond? Skyzoo: Just pushing the new mixtape, hitting with new music and inking this major deal. Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? Any shout outs? Skyzoo: Thanks to all of the fans who show me love and take the time out to be apart of my world through my music. I make music from what I know, feel, and see, and ya'll relate. That means more than you'll probably ever know. Hit me on MySpace at www.myspace.com/skyzoo. I'm on there everyday so definitely get at me.
