Raptalk.net were given he chance to hook up with Brooklyn emcee Access Immortal to talk about his new album, his plans for the future & his thoughs about the current state of hip hop. Make sure you check out the title track off his new album American Me. The new album "American Me" hits shelves June 12th and features the likes of Skyzoo, Poison Pen, Akir & Reef The Lost Cauze, Enjoy! Dub MD: Access Immortal, What's good? Access Immortal: Just gearing up for the new album release and everything that comes along with it. Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now? Access Immortal: Well i started off prob about 2001 but it wasn't anything too serious besides performing at various open mics in the New York city area. From there it went to my limited edition mixtape in 04, then the "Shades Of Reality" album the next year followed up with New York yankee in December of 2005, and now coming up upon the release of my 2nd album, "American Me." Dub MD: Coming from Brooklyn, what do you think of the New York music scene right now? Access Immortal: I think alot of it is overlooked, especially artist coming out Brooklyn. Right now i feel like alot of BK artists are doing their thing and on the come up and everyone is so focused on things going on in the mainstream that people act like the indies don't exist but if they looked toward the scene, they would find some real dope hip hop. Dub MD: What do you think of commercialisation of hip hop right now, do you think its showing disrespect to its pioneers? Access Immortal: Yeah, because it's like you can't just be good without some sort of gimic behind you and that's terrible. It's also so oversaturated that every week someone is popping up with a new song being played 24/7 and then having that artist fade away never to be heard from again and it's hurting the quality aspect of the music in the long run as well as sales and consumer interest. Dub MD: Do you have any new projects in the works? what's it called & what can your fans expect? Access Immortal: The new album "American Me" drops on June 12th on Introspect Records and that's what's current right now. Everyone can expect an ill album, not just focused in hip hop but good in general as far as music and a great follow up to my first full length project from 2 years ago. Dub MD: With this album, what producers & artists are you connecting with this time round? Access Immortal: I worked with mostly a different cast from the album on both sides. With features, i have Medinah Starr, Karniege, L.I.F.E. Long, Skyzoo, Swave Sevah, Poison Pen, Reef The Lost Cauze, Akir and more. Producers include Vanderslice, Ruckspin & Da Natural "Right now i feel like alot of BK artists are doing their thing and on the come up and everyone is so focused on things going on in the mainstream that people act like the indies don't exist but if they looked toward the scene, they would find some real dope Hip Hop" Dub MD: Out of all MC's you've worked with so far, which ones did you feel you had the best connection with both personally and on the track? Access Immortal: I feel like i connect with all the mc's i had on my projects so it would be hard for me to pick some out of all of them. On a personally level, it would prob be the people i know outside of the music, people like Medinah, Karniege & Poison Pen. Dub MD: How as an emcee do you think you've changed from "Shades Of Reality" to "American Me"? Access Immortal: I grew up more cause i was going through a ton of different things doing American Me, then when i was recording Shades Of Reality so the song process and overall feel is different depending on what you go through when your making the record. Dub MD: What's your label situation like just now? Access Immortal: It's good, great actually! Introspect Records is the name, come check us out. Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet are you planning a worldwide tour anytime soon? Access Immortal: Not that i know of, but i have some shows getting lined up so people will be able to see me and if they want to see me in places where they live at, just get at me with info on who i need to speak to in order to make that happen. Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there? Access Immortal: I just want to be me and do what i do. So many people work at it and when it doesn't come quick enough, they switch into whatever is hot at the moment and try to get on like that, only problem is there's a bunch of other people thinking the same thing so it never works. You just gotta be yourself though and realize that you can't please everyone and not attempt too. Dub MD: What is on tap for Access Immortal for the rest of 2007 and beyond? Access Immortal: Many things, people will just have to wait and see though, but i'll keep everyone posted on the website. Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs? Access Immortal: Thanks to all the fans for the continued support over the years and being a fan of me. And peace to Medinah Starr, Karniege , Poison Pen, everybody on the album and everyone who supports what i do DUB MD
