Raptalk.net Exclusive Q&A Interview Session With Serius Jones

RAPTALK.NET have been given the chance to hook up with Distrubing The Peace' newst signee "Serius Jones" for another exclusive question & answer session. He sat down with us to talk about New Jersey, the state of hip hop and about his recent signing with DTP / Def Jam Recordings. Serius is set to release his long awaited official debut album "Life Is Serius" due out this summer, Enjoy!

Dub MD: Serius Jones, What's good?
Serius Jones: Life is good, I'm just real focused on making this "Life Is Serius" album a classic right now. I'm on a mission.

Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now?
Serius Jones: I've been through the drama, the so-called beefs, the haters and i've had to adapt my movements and thought process just because i was all on national TV while i was still amongst the wolves with no deal. Up until now i have experienced so much that it really helped me to be more seasoned as a rookie in this game. In terms of dealing with the industry politics and the street aspect, i feel like i'm damn near a veteran.

Dub MD: Coming from the Englewood, NJ, What do you think of the New Jersey music scene right now?
Serius Jones: I rep Jersey because that's where I spent the majority of my life and have the most memorable experiences at, but i've spent time in New York, Atlanta, Florida try to think universal in terms of music. There really is no New Jersey music scene to keep it real. There are definitely a ton of talented artists here though. And once one artist takes it to that next level again i'm sure the flood gates will open looking for more talent in Jersey.

Dub MD: A lot of people are saying "Hip Hop Is Dead" lately, How do you feel about the current state of hip hop?
Serius Jones: I think Nas said "Hip Hop is Dead" and some people believe him because certain aspects of the culture of Hip Hop are missing. The integrity of an emcee is overshadowed by money and sales. The youth don't love Hip Hop the same now days because they don't know or respect its history. Also albums are lacking in quality because the subject matter is not refreshing. These dudes are all copying off each and scared to be original.

Dub MD: I gotta say congrats on your recent signing with DTP, How did that whole situation come about?
Serius Jones: Basically I was building my buzz and my name through my battles which were all over MTV and BET. I was doing commercials and interviews on these stations as well before I even sat down with any labels plus I was ringing bells in the streets. I also had a cd out called "KING ME" which was reaching their ears. I came to the table with want I wanted and they convinced me that they could deliver, So it just made good business sense to make that move for both parties.

Dub MD: Do you have a new album or mixtape in the works?, What's its it called & What can your fans expect?
Serius Jones: "KING ME" is still available on
www.myspace.com/seriusjones and I have a new joint blasting off soon as well. I'm also doing a documentary film based on my story with a soundtrack. The DTP compilation is coming and I did a lot of writing on that. Also stay tuned to youtube.com because I will be shooting a video every month until the release of my album. And you know i'm gonna be going crazy over every beat I can get my hands on in the streets!!

"The youth don't love Hip Hop the same now days because they don't know or respect its history. Also albums are lacking in quality because the subject matter is not refreshing. These dudes are all copying off each and scared to be original"

Dub MD: Your street album "King Me" was a classic joint, What's the response in the streets been like on that joint?
Serius Jones: Thanks fam. You know what's so crazy is that I have been so wrapped up in finishing my album that I haven't even properly grinded the mixtape out. I think in the first month alone I had almost 10,000 downloads. So it really was more demand then I anticipated but that mixtape game is so saturated that its really its own grind. Now i'm probably at about 40 something thousand downloads. So people are feeling the music but If anyone knows how to get that mixtape money popping for real get at me!!

Dub MD: Being part of Fight Klub back in the day, Do you feel that played a big part in your career to get you where you are now?
Serius Jones: Of course. Anytime you can be on national and international TV, you have a chance to capture the publics attention. That's what I do given the opportunity. If U a star your job is to shine.

Dub MD: Besides rapping are you planning to branch out into any other things besides doing rap music like Clothing, Movies etc?
Serius Jones: Oh most definitely. I've always been a writer and a real idea driven type of dude, so rapping was a talent that came last. It's just hard to manage your time enough to pursue a bunch of interests at one time. Unless they're in the same area. So i'm focused on making sure my music gets the right attention first and showing my story on cinema is only part of it. But i'm looking to grow in as many ways as possible
eventually.

Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet are you planning a worldwide tour anytime soon?
Serius Jones: I'm on a world wide tour right now!! I'm just not getting paid for it yet! lol. But I will definitely be coming to a city near you soon. I just have to pick a single from this crazy batch of songs I have. I should be done with that in the next week or so.

Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, What would they be?
Serius Jones: Original, Relentless, Real, Classic

Dub MD: What is on tap for Serius Jones for the rest of 2007 and beyond?
Serius Jones: HISTORY!!

Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? Anything you wanna get off your chest? Any shout outs?
Serius Jones: I love all of ya'll who love me for real.. Those who know my potential and support my movement and vision will be thoroughly rewarded with this album.. Life I Serius is coming soon. Jersey hard body every trip, 1st Ave, Lafayette, Englewood, Harlem, the Wolves, Fat cat Paulie. Free my cuzin Dice and Bob.. Love is love. LIFE IS SERIUS
